Title: Water in VW badge/handle on tailgate?
Post by: hotrod on 29 March 2008, 20:50
Hi guys,

One thing I’ve noticed since owning the ED30 (in this crap weather), is that the opening VW badge/handle on the tailgate always seems to have water in it.

Tried to get it out, but always reappears. Has anyone had any problems with the water ingress (rust), or is it just one of those design quirks?

Cheers... Hotrod

I think it's a design quirk

VW seem to have changed the design of the badge once or twice ... some are flat faced and some (most?) have a raised chrome effect.

Water seems to run down the rear window and then into the gap between the window & the paintwork just below it.  The water then seems to settle right in the middle and then trickle down into the badge / handle area

Not heard any stories about rust but one or two people have had the "milky worm stains" in the chrome badge and had them replaced under warranty.

The rear badge has been changed from the 1st 54 plate cars to the newer 56 plate onwards. i very much doubt the newer style badge would worm like the 1st type used to.
