Title: iPod cradle
Post by: mr magoo on 29 March 2008, 20:03
Chaps and chapesses

Right. I've got the iPod prep but need the iPod cradle at about 185 quid to actually use it in the car. This is the thing that goes in to the armrest.

I've heard a few people saying that the functionality is awful though and actually using an iPod in the car is

I've got a mfsw and the new rns510 sat nav - what's good and bad about the iPod set up in vw's?

And are there decent alternatives?

Thanks

Martin

Yes, I'd have thought that the RNS510 with its hard drive would be good enough for MP3 playback without the need for the IPOD prep (which is pants )

Thanks Hurdy. No doubt I need to read the manual  but can I just download my music from the iPod on to the RNS510?

On reading the manual  :nerd: it specifies .mp3 or .wma file types can be used on the RNS510.

However, it appears my iPod stores music in .m4p format?

I need some help!

Just burn all your mp3's on to DVDR and load them onto the rns510.
If the mp3's are on your ipod then they are also on your computer so just find where you keep the itunes library and burn them.

You can't transfer music from the IPOD

You can do as Maxumus says or use an SD card (2gb or less) to transfer the files. Although you cannot transfer as much as a DVD disc, the SD cards download and upload faster.

You can. Use this freeware app: http://www.softpedia.com/get/IPOD-TOOLS/Multimedia-IPOD-tools/iDump.shtml

iDump description
This application will allow you transfer your songs off your iPod to a PC
iDump will allow you transfer your songs off your iPod to a PC, iDump does come wrapped in installer but you can simply drop the .exe in the root directory on your iPod and run it from there.

Connect your iPod and run iDump and you'll have access to all your songs, select the songs you want to transfer then pick a destination directory and how you would like your songs to be named. And then sit back and transfer all the
selected songs to the PC.

Thanks all, that's great.

I don't actually have all my iPod files on my PC - only those bought off iTunes - so that url will be fantastic.

If I can ever be @rsed to do it of course
