Hi guys, I'm going to look at a car tomorrow and hoping to buy it, it has MOT but no tax, is there any way to legally get it home, bearing in mind there are no post offices open??
Cheers,
Ozz

Trailer it mate, I asked this question in work and was told you can either trailer it or drive it but if you get stopped you'd have to pay the outstanding tax (in your case 1 day), not sure about a car without tax or MOT though and obviously you wouldnt drive it without insurance. If it was close to home I might consider it but I dont know what would happen if someone drove into you, could be a problem :undecided:

It has MOT, was thinking I could tax it online and then drive it back??
-
You COULD tax it online BUT the disc will go to OLD owners address!
I drove my last car from London (Kent area) to Plymouth with no tax but with MOT and Insurance of course, was lucky I suppose, and I've done it from Dawlish to Plymouth a while ago. It would be a very mean copper to give you a fine.....If it's not too far, I'd do it.

Cheers for the advice, thinking i might just head back over on monday to pick it up when I can get tax from the post office!
-
with the amount of anpr cameras around now mate i wouldnt chance it

One of the guys I work with bought a car from the aution and as it had a MOT he insured it and drove it home with no tax. If he'd been stopped he would just have had to pay the outstanding tax owing on the car and if you've just bought it that would be one day
Sorry Ozz I miss read the bit saying it did have a MOT
-
Well I bought it, waiting to pick it up tomorrow, possibly the least exciting car I've ever bought, chugging mk3 diesel!!!
-
you boring git!
-
Hehe, boring as hell, but need it to run me round while i fix the valver and sell it, strip down the 8v and scrap it and fix up the mk1!!
-
that all seems in order. Carry on!
Got a 5 dr interior or front seat subframes?
-
For a mk2? Got seats coming out of my ears but I think theyre all 3 door ones with the folding fronts. Got a lovely rado interior but thats destined for the mk1
-
yeah for my jetta man, its got Alfa wank seats in it at the moment, so need normal mk2 frames an normal mk2 seats, prefer a matching pair!

I drove around for just over 3 months on an old tax disc once. My car was Manx registered so it took AGES to get the new V5 through etc. Never got stopped the whole time I was driving with the old disc in :)
