Post by: golf3 20lt 8v on 13 April 2004, 20:08
got a 3 door runs perfectly, interior mint condition 1997 gti. however theres a slight squeak/rubbing/tapping comming from passenger door area or around passenger air blower cant be sure cant pin point it.  its not very loud and only occurs on bumpy ground but as its the only sound its quite annoying any info or ideas appreciated
               cheers (no accident damage etc)

I've got it as well. I'd thought I pinpointed it to the triangular shaped trim near the door mirror. That's as far as I've got as neither me nor my mate could find exactly where.

My theory is that when you take this trim out it's really stiff and a piece usually breaks. I wonder whether this piece can fall into the door. You could try taking it out and see if any of the clips are broken. But then again, you might break it by doing this. They're only about ?3 from VW.
Let me me know if you find it.

Thanks

took that piece of trim off. theres not much behind it most of the space is taken up by a foam panel.  doesnt seem like its the culprit.  noise is still there gonna check the fresh air blower on that side.  any luck with yours let us know

i've noticed that on mine theres a lil rattle that can be stopped if i lean over and pull the fixed handle on the door.

seems to get worse if i turn the stereo up too. lmao ;)
