hi pips want to lower my golf with coilovers which height is best is 40mm to high or is 90mm to low what have you lowered yours by thanks
p.s ive got speed ramps all over my area
-
if you have got ots of speed bumps the i would say that somewhere between 40 and 50 mm would be the best
-
40mm is the best for handling, 90mm would be crazy
-
I'm going down 30mm - too low looks silly, all depends on what you want to achieve...looks or handeling.

Sounds just right to me.

I'm not sure exactly how much I have lowered my car (mk2 Driver +20mm higher over a gti). Around 40-50mm roughly. When I fitted my coilovers I left the height at how they came in the box. Which happened to be about 80-90mm, didn't look v good to me. I kept it like that for a few hours and a giggle but it's just not worth it when you felt how harsh and crap the ride was + you couldn't full lock, go over speed bumps properly, carry passengers + girls just get pissed off with it etc etc. I think for practicality no more than 40mm for a gti.

lower it until the wishbones are parallel! i have no idea what drop that is, 40-50ish i think

Aye that seems about right to me
About 40mm I think it is

hate to be the one that disagrees, but i'm slammed 120mm on coilies, can get over most speed bumps ( as long as there not mountains!), can carry passengers ( had me, two mates, and big tool box in the boot, no probs), have full lock( with a bit of minor scrapin) love the way it handles, and love the look of it!!! sorry peeps, each to their own i guess!

personally, i think it looks just right. not too high, not stupidly low, and quite comfortable to drive.

I had my mk2 driver lowered by 80mm and only found that it was too low for the front splitter as I didn't encounter any wishbone problems or anything.
When i got my valver though I lowered it 55mm
here is a pic of both:

though ive never measured it, but its right down to the bottom on hottuning 120mm coilies.

It comes down to personal choice really... Mines about 100mm on FK Highsports... ride's firm, not hard and it handles beautifully. The only thing is that the front splitter rubs as does the exhaust occasionally depending on the size of humps. It doesn't bother me in the slightest if i have to slow down as it makes up for it on the handling. TBH it is best to lower it till the wishbones are straight as too low can put the camber out but then again I have had no problems at all.
It your car son... do what you wanna do... personally i'd slam it but subtle lowering is just as effective.
