i have just bought a mk2 8v when having a look around the engine i pulled the oil breather bung out and it
tore the car was running like it was off a cylinder i was tol the bung being tore was the problem i hav since
replaced it being told that would be it sorted but its still chugging and when you drive it it suffers between
1-2 1/2 rpm then ok on up the revs i am baffled :sad:

Have you checked the knock sensor? That causes those problems mainly with cars that have turbo boost but that could be the problem.

I was told today that we had a landrover engine that had the same problem as your engine, it uses the same borsh unit as the Mk2 8v, that had a fault on it and made the car run lumpy with also a loss of power. No point buying a new one, get a second hand one off ebay or go to GWbridges in Crawly, you can google them if you don't know who they are. Will cost you around £40 quid.
