Title: How to adjust/lower idling speed on 1.8 Gti 1983 Y
Post by: tajbhambra on 27 March 2008, 10:37
Hi all, my MK1 idles around 1100rpm once hot and I'd like to get it down to around 800rpm if possible. Where exactly is the screw to do this?

Cheers guys

The screw is a 7mm hex headed bolt on the back of the inlet manifold.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, is it safe to turn this till you get the desired effect, or will it effect emmisions etc..? I thought there was a CO screw to deal with as well?

Thanks again

i normally keep my mk1s idling at 1k, you need to adjust your idle screw at the back of the throttle body on the right hand side of the inlet manifold.

there is the co screw on the metering head but unless you have a gas analyser i wouldnt bother messing with it, take it to a garage and ask them to set it up  shouldnt cost more than 20 squids
