two things:
firstly,
what size are the Torx heads on the head stretch bolts on a 1.3 carb engine?
secondly,
same engine, how can you ''lock off'' the bottom end to enable the large bolt holding on the bottom pully to be removed. (cambelt has snapped).
finally,
any tips on timing up said engine when we come to putting the head and belt back on, never touched a 1.3 before and my mate thinks i know stuff!
Thanks :)

the torx, cant remeber how sizes work with those, but afaik theyre the same size head as the gti's possibly.. tis not a very olarge bit, it was about 6 or 7mm iirc, i know tyhats not the right number though lol.. will find out later for you though
as far as locking off the engine goes.. why are you removing the big bolt for the pulley? theres 4 little allen key bolts holdign the alt pully to the crank, and then the big bolt? but, eitherway crank pulley bolt and those 4, on mine were tight as funk. impact gun is the only real way because of the limited manouvre space down there.
as far as timing, its pretty basic, as far as i can tell but i have only watched my mates do it, and put white amrks on my pulleys. but i figure you could put the pistons to TDC with head off, and mark the bottom pulley, and then use the cam cover with the timing arrow marked in the plastic, to -put the cam to the right position, for a rough guide? and then you use the dizzy degree timing.

The bolt heads aren't Torx, they're 12-spline. The two are quite different - you won't be able to use Torx bits in the 12 spline heads!
-
thats a good point, how wany are torx? 6? ive got my wires crossed and all calling them that
-
I managed to use a 6-sided bit on my head bolts, oops
-
Definately NOT torx... it is spline! Can't remember the size off the top of my head but i think its a 8.

To get the pully off, gonna need to do it in order to time the engine up as we're fitting a new belt as the belts snapped and the head gaskets gone.
Cheers for the help dudes, very helpful as always :)

Don't need to remove the big bolt on the pulley... just the for hex bolts. Thay are prone to damage though when takin off so soak them in WD40 or better still PlusGas. if the heads are damageded then hammer the same sized spline into it and it'll come undone.

yah chris no need for the big bolt to come out only the 4 baby ones around it
-
Oh right, i got the four hex bolts out, and only rounded off 1 of them, but the pully didnt come off?
Maybe i need to give it more of a pull.
-
Give it a wallop on either side a few times - they normally need unsettling and wiggling about before they come off.

Remember to mark the positon of the pulley in relation to the crankshaft. If you put the pulley back in a different position then your TDC markings will never line up.
Like diamond says, give it a tap and prise both pulleys off.
