Title: Mk1 1.8 GTI identification
Post by: FTD RACING on 13 April 2004, 12:01
Help needed.  New to the world of Golf GTI's.

I am going to hopefully be buying a mk1 1.8 GTI.  Is there any way to tell that it has the correct size engine in it by the engine number?  If so what should it start with?  It?s a Y reg  (1983).

Thanks

Tony

Hi Tony,
1.8 gti golf should have a dx engine code, it is stamped on the engine block below the cylinder head on the r/h as viewed from under the bonnet. There are some good links on the Golfgti home page (Matey Matey, mk1 history etc) to help you make a informed choice.
Steve.

If the one you're looking at disappoints, I've got a mk1 1.8 Gti for sale with a very detailed history, only two owners since new - it's a very genuine car. Let me know if you're interested. I'm in East Yorkshire.
