What is the best engine to drop into a MK2
I have a 1992 8v and I need it to go faster.
VR6 ?
4 Motion
1.8T Audi or VW ?
Let me know of any succesful conversions please.
Any harder or easier than others ?

My golf was a gti 16v when i had it.
First conversion was to a 9a with kr cams and 6 hours to do the conversion with good power increase.
Now i have just finished a 20vt done it myself and running 230bhp on k03s. Much better to drive than my old mk3 vr highline. Conversion was not that hard realy just got a couple of things to finish off. In total the conversion cost me £2500. I would say best conversion for the mk2.

Good effort, mines taken 7 months so far

20vt blatto,
-
r32? type in r32 golf on youtube. what a machine!

Saving up for the 1.8t conversion myself!

Is that it!? Obviously the fact that you carried out the work yourself plays a huuuge part but I was still expecting a 20vt transplant to be mega bucks.
Hmmm now where did that credit card go... :smug:

20vt with a K04
That's cheap for a 20vt conversion, the only other cheap one I heard of was £3000, other than that they can run past £5000+!

i dropped a G60 into mine last weekend, cost around £1200 with a few extras. its digipants so plugs straight it pretty much, and its very similar to the 8v in shape and form making it simplish. i know 20vt are the in thing but i wanted G power :)

i know what you mean, somehow "supercharged" sounds better than "turbocharged"

I've always fancied an ABF 16v engine myself
-
them 1.8t's go like stink but they sound crap!! Personaly i like a nice induction and exhaust note - for me its a VR6

VR6T

if it sounds nice its a bonus, but i wouldnt let it decide what engine to go with!
have just put an abf in mine and its a very nice improvement for very little money
-
i got an ABF in the ibiza so that wasnt an option, heres a pic of my G60 today on the driveway youll see how similar apart from the charger it is to the 8v

G60 engines are in no way, shape of form similar to 8v engines.

in my household ive got 3 mk2s all with differant engines, 2 of which are installed by myself.
-1986 16v with an 'abf' with kr cams, four branch etc. this only cost bout £450 and produces 165bhp ( not much torque but loadsa revs!) on the rolling road. heres a pic:

-1989 5 door g60. this had the g60 setup installed by g werks with a 1.9 bottom end, gas flowed head and charger, four branch, red injectors, chip and pulley. produces about 200bhp and 200ft lb of torque. it has good low down power.

-1986 golf 'c' 1.8 20v turbo installed by me using a k03s equipped engine from an octavia vrs. the engine is standard apart from a remap on the aftermarket ecu, 2.5" exhaust from turbo back (no cat), air filter and front mount intercooler. this produced 222bhp and 241 lbft (at 3200rpm ) of torque on the rolling road.this is an animal! fith gear spin ups in the wet are all to common . this cost £2000 for me to do (start to finish) and 2 days to complete.
This really is a easy diy conversion especially if you use a plug and play kit from quantum performance engineering.
