how fast does everyone drive. i just came back from lowestoft and top speed was 95. im bit scared of blowing my bay up! am i a wuss
-
my top was 102ish, but my car was rattling like f**k and had the wife screaming at me to go slower.
I've heard that with off tracking that the car shakes more, is this true?

sounds like you need your wheels balancing
-
i got new tyres on sunday n balanced. still shake the wheel @ 80 tho
-
yea, the car pulls to the left a bit, I did ask the girl at work today if her boyfriend does the tracking and stuff but he only has the equipment for 4wd's atm
-
whilst bringing my car back from hamshire my brother "on a private road" saw 120 i had to speed up to about 110 to catch up as he was slowing down
-
my bro has a beemer 328 i was following him and he left me for dead. he thought as i had a gti i should keep up at 125  i chuckled and told him there were crappy little fiesta's flyin past!
-
i normally sit at about 80 90 in me car and me van. seen my car off the clock! (on a private road of corse)
-
hit 1's weekly
-
after my little blat back home i noticed it stunk of hot rubber and it werent the tyres!
-
I had that once, turned out there was a fire earlier in the day in the area. Mad me cack myself
on a more serious note...
are all the elecs working? have you popped the bonnet to check if it's coming from the bay? smell each tyre just to see if it gets worse near any of them. Have the bearings been playing up at all? I had my bearings (housing only as the round thingys were no where to be seen!) seize up on the sub axle and didn't realise until I got back from Wolverhampton (110miles :lipsrsealed: ) but there was an aweful smell when I stopped at the services.
-
the daily will do 120 according to the clocks (which are about 5mph out) no problem but its NOISY!!
i blame the 4 branch manifold and powerflow exhaust...
-
To be honest I don't speed on motorways much as its the prime place to get caught. I'm enjoy country lanes much more!!

i know my rear wheel bearing is making a noise, also, my fan belt squeels like a pig just before slaughtering
-
i do 60 on the dual carriageway to work to save fuel :undecided:
-
just done a maryport to chester trip and sat at about 80 comfortably. did have a little play once or twice (on a provate road of course) flew up to 120, was nice and steady too!
-
My sat-nav said my max was 114... damn seat leon! :undecided:
-
On a private road I've seen close to 130 from my 8V. Got there pretty quickly too.
-
I have hit the rev limiter in fifth (129mph) . mk2 20vt on 8v gearbox  private road of course
-
Wrong thread sorry
-
Going back to the original wheel wobble question - with your after market alloys do you have any spigot rings fitted to make sure they're centred on your hubs correctly? That's a easy thing to over look and can cause massive issues!!!
Dave.
-
dont think so, never heard of em?
-
The only after-market wheels I've fitted to a Golf wobbled like mad. I took them off in preference for a set of Sebrings and everything went back to dead smooth.
Parts made for the job, rather than aftermarket 'might-fit' parts.
-
Well with after market wheels they're either 'direct drill' and the centre of the wheel is a set size for a certain manufacturer . . . or in most cases the centre bore is massive and a adapter (called a spigot ring) is needed to set the centre bore to match that of your car.
The idea is to make sure the wheel is centred and spins in a 'Hub Centric' fashion (i think that's the right term?!?), otherwise it'll spin erratically and i.e.. up and down and wobble like crazy!!
Hope that makes sense . . .
-
funny how people are saying "on a private road, lol "
might as well say you were on a public road if you put the "lol" and "" after it, silly silly.
-
Hit 125 in the golf without issue and can quite happily cruise at it, but I don't make a habit of it, only on long open stretches.
-
Had 115 from my Digi and 123 from my 16 valver.
-
no i dont have a spigot ring can i buy one or best of with proper wheels?
alot of people get over a ton, i must be a wus!

ive only done it three times in 18 months... i dont fancy losing my license
-
LOL, police better not see this
-
I had spiggot rings with my non-VW wheels and they still didn't run true.
Go with VW if you want it to work properly.
As for the 'oooooh I got XXX out of mine' this really is turning into a fairly futile cock-waving competition, isn't it?
-
Everyone is joking anyway. Not one Golf GTI owner goes over 70mph.

I certianly dont go over 50! 70 is scary for me.
-
Normally travel at around 85-90 (on private roads only of course), though go faster if I need to overtake..
-
I've hit 140 on the valvers speedo.
It must be right.
-
forgot to say im a policeman
-
forgot to say im a policeman
So what, its what you can prove that matters not what you know
As for me, never over 65
-
as long as you dont go posting pictures and videos of yourselt speeding theres not a lot they can do about it, i managed to get a ton out of my 1.6 driver
-
I'm not scared of going fast but don't tend to do silly speeds when I risk losing my licence or get points or worse kill someone.
-
I know its not a vw but my first car which was a 954cc 106 with four gears hit 115.... and yes it was being scrapped the nxt day!
-
what scares me are are people blatently in company cars flying past you whilst looking like they're trying to lick the windscreen
-
forgot to say im a policeman
And if thats true, then your the bloody worlds worst offends
As for my motor(8v std), regular trips to 90-95 and has been off the clock pulling 5k revs, stilling pulling strong but don't know what speed as it has the needle burried, all at a local strip of course
-
130ish in my valver i think, this means i must have a massive willy.
-
I cruise daily at 80-90 and when there is an open road and no cameras I take it to 115 when warmed up!
Power delivery is brilliant....
Bout 3 weeks ago i was cruising slowly at about 60-70 and a white skoda started poking up my bumper.
I was going to give it some but thank lord the car hadnt warmed up so i was being sensible and holding speed.
Anyway this continued even after swapping lanes i.e the skoda kept pissing me off!
All of a sudden, blue lights flash in the interior, undercover feds on the motorway
Apparently my motor was not being registered as legally insured and under my name, the cops thought i had stolen her!
Lucky for me I had recently done my road tax at the posties and had all ma documentation on me...
Morale of the story, drive carefully! i.e Give it some in the right places (no traffic, cameras etc) i suppose!

Must have the biggest willy on the forum @ that speed

I agree with you. Its not your licence or point your risking, its your life or someone elses. On my 1.6 the highest ive been was 90 and i know the car can do 110 easily, i never push it though cos ive always got a mate with me, and i wouldnt like to imagine the situation i would be in if i crashed, i survided and he was killed. To speed first i have to tick some boxed.
Think,
Am I alone?
Am I risking someone's life?
Is there any traffic at all?
Is the road clear?
Whats the speed limit? (obviously dont do 100 in a 30 area!)
Are there any dangers ahead that can case me to swerve the car or crash?
If your in a built up area a kid could easily run infront of u from behind parked cars, on a rural area an animal could easily meet u in the middle of the road and at 100mph hitting a rabbit or even a dog isn't nice, you would both lose.
THINK!!
But speed is great appart from all this
