Title: Help! Please identify! Oil? Why???!?!?!
Post by: cняis on 25 March 2008, 18:20
OK so after a steady drive home (25 miles) I get out of the car to smell something burning. Smelt like oil. Opened the bay to find the following:

Oil on gearbox/driveshaft link? (passenger side. drivers side was dry):

Oil/some other liquid on heat-shield behind manifold:

what and why and how to fix?

not sure chap but will prob quote you 1 / 1.5 hours (you know what garages are like lol)
If your atall handy with a spanner id try myself their not that bad to do, ive done them on loads of diferent cars!
but the risk of f*#king up the new seal might not be worth it.
how much does your garage charge an hour?

Yeah you shouldnt have lost much oil but a top up is a good idea!
How long since the oil has been changed? you might as well get them to change it for you while their there!

probably never!! and its a high miler (nearly 235k now) as its my daily runner.

cheap because its a back street garage but lovely ppl and they look after our works cars (that arent on warranty) - hence im on trade rates.
