when i went to elsacar this week i followed a few down the m/way and from the rear they look awsome and ive kinda fallen in love with the whole car .and i especialy hav fallen for the smoothed front bumper look with some subtle dish and chrome look
whats a wise choice to take 16v but the car seems abit lardy even tho it dont quite do it in the mk3's so thinking g60
what do you think overall as a corrado .im still a young lad with good no claims and only paying £740 on a 8vgti think i may take this route
time will see
thanks for all info mark

It's like a Golf, but with less space and a considerably higher insurance bill.
Pretty car, mind.
-
16v is nice, I used to have one, an it just so happens its in the forsale section as vaughns eyin up something new!
Oh an rados have awesome knightrider stylee boot spoliers!

Ever driven one? thought not...
they handle better than a mk2 Golf, look awesome and hold their value better than Golfs...
Having said that, they're built by Karmann, not VW, so don't feel quite as sturdy, but thats the only drawback
Go for it, if you find a nice one, you'll not regret it, I've had a few and I miss them...

sold a G60 to buy a mk2 16v wasn`t impressed a lot as filthy says about build quality interior trim especially (but were not talking french kind of build quality just not as good as the golfs) I just couldnt take to the Coupe kind of thing personally and for me didnt find it as practical as the golf. But once you were behind the wheel it was a good car handled awesomely seating position great but as a daily found it a bit hard work.If practicallity not top of your list get one but as Dinx says there is a lot of rubbish out there so be carefull when buying...
-
I had a VR6 storm for a while in green with cream leather - fab car but need alot of cash for petrol.
-
thanks for input guys. what makes them so bad on fuel are we talking g60 here and not the 16v.
mite go down the road of buying one and keeping the golf just incase
-
My ten pence worth...
I love the Corrado's styling - its basically a Golf in an Armani, and as already said above, I'm sure they will be a serious classic in say ten years. I have therefore considered maybe moving to a Corrado for my next car, however, my only issue with them is the compromised engines...
1) 16v is relatively slow and apprently feels a bit weedy
2) The G60 ties you in to expensive G-Lader refurbs, and as its a more highly strung engine I would be constantly worried its going to pop
3) The VR6 is a delightful lump but would be much more difficult to maintain on a DIY basis due to the size/weight of the engine and cost of parts.
-
Ive been having similar ideas, altho i was considering the 1.8l 16v to replace my mk2 8v as the insurance on a g60 is silly. is there any big diff on the 2l 16valver? would a 16valver mk 2 be a better option? any more info would be appreciated :)
cheers

Corrados are awsome, love the look of them and it handles great and fairly good on fuel (1.8 16v). Mine has been pretty reliable (considering its on 189K) although when it does go wrong some parts can be expensive/hard to source. They dont need much to make them look good and are getting rarer and often gets people commenting on how nice it is and that you dont see many any more (although they often call it a scirocco too...).
That said it is slightly more juicy than my g/f's mk2 8v gti (although still averages 30mpg+ on normal driving), is slightly higher to insure and the golf feels a lot more "go cart" like and is probably more fun to drive due to not having to rev the hell outta it to get it to go (think the Rado is faster but the golf feels faster if you get what i mean ).
-
cheers for the info guys given me somethings to consider
-
You can put a Golf 16v throttle body on the Corrado 16v engine, which gives it a bit more top end power...
-
get a vr6 2.9 with 200bhp as standard

hey you could do worse! my missus bought a renault megane 2.0 16v ide in 2004. its now got 45000 miles on it and it needs two new bottom arms and all the eletrics have packed up! wahey! never buy a renault.
-
What was the problem with yours Blue?
-
They are ok but kind of overrated in the handling side of things imo.
maybe its just me? maybe it was a dog? Sorry if i offended anyone
Banned
-
Have always fancied a nugget yellow rado
They are great cars, possibly one of the best handling FWD cars of the era and possibly even compared to modern cars.
G60 - does = potentially expensive bills £350+ for a rebuild and a lot more if it actually blows.
if you are considering a valver try and get a later 2.0 version (1992-), you get a nicer black interior in them and with a few tweeks to the engine you can approach G60 power levels plus 16v engines easy to maintain/service and not a lot more on juice compared to a 8v.
There are a series of common faults which can effect them, notably spoiler speed sensor/actuator , electric sunroofs (they tend to tilt but not slide or not move at all). other things to note a panels are difficult/expensve - front wings bonnets an bumpers.

obviously got good taste!, will remember that if i ever decide to sell mine
-
LOL i do like yours, seen it at a few shows last year at it certainly is proper YELLOW!! There is also another nugget that attends a few shows which has MOMO alloys with red centres on it- dont like those wheels as much but its a nice example.
My uncle has a nugget yellow G60 which is a US import - LHD, Electric seat belts, recaros, air con, cruise control, all black dash+interior - soooo want to get my hands on it but feel free to give me a holla if you want to sell.

i know the one you mean, the wheels are not to my taste but the car itself is mint.

Fair enough, I stand corrected
-
The only one I would consider is a storm or base VR6 to be honest, ''If your gonna be a bear be a grizzly!''. They are good looking but they do have a very slight whiff of hairdresser about them . Doubt I'd trade up to one unless I'm spending large dough on a mint Storm.
It's a personal choice, I mean there are still people tuning French cars for crying out loud. Why why why!
-
same here, ;ove;y cars if you spend top dollar and get a really nice top spec, low mileage VR6, everything else I wouldn't be interested. they are costly to repair and as such most are in dog awful shape being sold for peanuts
-
Well to be honest i have just picked my one up for peanuts and it was a bargain full vag hist years mot
bodywork great drives great all elec`s working. i wanted a g60 but this car was just to good to miss 2l 16v
if you find a decent one then go for it m8.
Do miss my mk2 though gone but not forgotten

My dad had a vr6 storm brand new as a company car in 95, was totally immense!!
But as has been said, it wasnt built quite like a german VW
-
