got a bit of a predicument (spelling) i bought a blue mk1 cab with no engine and box with the intention of putin engine in and keepin slowly doin various bits ect then i came across a mk1 cab in black karmann gti all runnin very good hood poo interior and a bit rusty only cosmectic tho
any way what should i do clean the balck 1 and sell or put a 1.6 engin in blue 1 and sell and keep the gti
1 other question will the hood off a breg fit on a wreg

the black b-reg have a half leather interior? what condition is it in? want to sell?

well which do you prefer? how much money/time do you want to spend? which has the most solid body?
afaik, the hoods should be the same, don't think the dimensions ever changed with regards to the hood, although I could be wrong..
fyi - Karmann is not actually a "spec" its just simply where the cabriolets were built :smiley:

rite blue 1 w reg as said no engine box poo interior slight rip in hood underneath spotless need 2 doors sorting and few bits of trim inside needs respray tho!!
black 1 b reg gti good engine good hood poo interior again underneath solid as fas as i can havent had this 1 on ramps yet downside rust rear quarter but not to far gone new wing and front panel also needs respray in my eyes !!

right... first off, you either need to use bullet points or commas as I had to read your lists like three times! :grin:
Usual places for rust - Front wings - esp passenger, where the ariel is usually located
underneath windscreen and rear window
fuel filler neck
check battery tray
If your not bothered which, Id pick the best body, use the best bits off each car and go from there..

yeah..so possibly use the gti engine if its a better body? just depends what kind of car you want? like economy/drive/looks wise..

now from experience of having various cabs, I've always found once you take off the clipper kit (blue car for you) there is alot of rust underneath, thus I'm a big fan of the older cabs, as you can see where the damage is. Depending on what the underneath of the cars are like, I would go with doing up the black one and driving it as its works and get a cheap running gear for the blue one and sell it, then use the money from the Blue one to really do up the black one. Then again I would keep both and use one for day to day and one as your show car :)
You could always break the blue one as you will get good money for cabs in parts these days.

cheers m8 for the info i have just got a 1.6 engine and box for the blue 1, and thought of doin that and selling it should get a tidy sum for it? as it clean apart from the interior put a years mot on it should be all good.
i got a mk4 20vt for a daily bit more comfort the mk1 is purely goin to be a weekend car so will prob sit there all week.

just quick question just picked up a mk2 1.6 lump for the cab got 1 slight prob the engine mount is in the wrong place i was told that they just bolt on the side is this correct also were can i get 1

With regard to rust and corrosion....always check where the rear beam bolts on. Terribly prone to corrosion in this area, can be expensive to fix unless done yourself.

just had a pre mot on the black golf well it been standing for 2 yrs and all it need is a bit of rust sorting round front cross member,rear drivers side brake not workin properly, and fog light not working but do u reckon the rust on front cross member is worth sorting?
also i picked up a 1.8 carbed engine runs sweet with gearbox for 30 quid with autinater and starter ect so think will put this in the blue 1 just need to find engine mount bracket for the driver side any ideas?
