i have a problem with my 1990 8v mk2 my heater a/c controls are knakerd the top slider only goes to the third option and will not go to the windscreen heater (my most important one) lol
-
The sliders just pull a cable that routes around a number of cogs just behind the centre console into the dash. Either the cable is seized, or a cog has come off/become miss-aligned (more likely). Something could also be blocking the air direction flaps, preventing them from fully opening.
If you take out the passenger footwell shelf and the centre console you'll see the cogs. To get to the flaps involves removing the air box thingy (bit of a pain).
EDIT: Haynes has got a sh#tload on this, so I would invest in a copy if I were you!

The red or blue? Everyone seems to have the Blue one, bar me
-
As in Haynes? Mine's red. Didn't know there was two editions.
-
mines green, original style-its proper oldskool
-
the green one is actually better than the red one, the green one is liek a workshop manual whereas the red is a cut down one.
-
I got the red one... mite have to try find a green one if wot rubjonny says is true!
Try greasin up the cables and cogs... worked on mine.
