Just replaced the suspension on my '89 8v with 16v suspension (gas shocks) 2nd hand off ebay. The rear sits well, but the front seems very high, the car is noticeably pointing its nose up in the air. Could this be due to the fact of the 16v engine being heavier? Not sure what I can do, any ideas?

Hmmm. What shocks are they? Are they Bosel? My 16V sits lower at the back too, never known why. Always thought thats how they're s'posed to be. :smiley:

They are Boge gas shocks, looking at the pic in your signature it sits alot better than mine, mine looks like it is doing a wheelie.
Anybody here have 16v suspension on their 8v???

i am sure ive read somewhere that the back end sits lower on mk2 when rear axle bushes are worn
as for front springs take one off and compare height to your old springs

I think a few others have changed over to 16v suspension but not heard anything like this.
OakeyDoak16v has a 16v so wouldn't have the same problem as you, but this does sound like it being the 8v is lighter so sits higher.

Dunno guys, could be onto sommat here. Always wondered why my car sits lower at the back. I have got boge gas shocks, not "Bosel" just made that word up as couldn't remember what they were called.

My last 8v was sitting on its arse when I first bought her. I replaced the shocks and springs and that sorted it. Are you sure the rear springs are not lowered after market stuff? Or even, dare I say it, cut down? If they are suspect of being cut down, then chuck them back at the guy you bought them from.
The shocks will not affect ride height, only the springs will.

have you driven the car about to settle the suspension ? the 16v engine is heavier, so 16v suspension on an 8v would make it sit high...

this is all you need to worry about, it'll be the rear springs are lower then fronts, 16v engine wouldnt make it sit that much lower only about 10mm tops

check the condition of the bump stops and the rubber spring top mounts, these wear and cause the rear to sag.

I would not have thought that the car would rest on the bump stops. I thought the bump stops are there just to quash any impact caused by curbing or extreme driving. If the car rests on the bump stops, you have serious issues.

the rear bump stops arn't just bump stops, which is why they're large and foamy, compared to the fronts which are small and made of hard rubber ;)
