Hi Guys, I'm considering picking up a GTI over the next week or so. I am looking at the DSG option but am interested to see what "actual" fuel consumption you guys get....I tend to disregard the brochure specification.
I do a fair amount of Motorway runs and a good mix of town driving, what would you say would be my avereage expectation?
Cheers all
Harry

Is that harry monk from Xbox 360 by any chance?????, if it is hello mate long time no see!!

Hi and welcome Harry
There are a few recent threads on fuel consumption knocking about, but not DSG specific. Mine is an ED30 DSG and remapped, so should give less MPG than a standard GTI DSG. I don't normally measure MPG. but when I went on my last motorway jaunt (264 miles) I filled up when I set off and then again when I arrived back. It cost £45 and the fuel was £1.13 a litre. So that works out at 30 mpg (but I wasn't hanging around!)

Having had my gti30 dsg for 2 and a half months, ive done 1600miles, 99.99% of it being my daily journeys of 10mile mixed journey to work, 3 mile urban for food, 10 mile mixed journey home. Its averaging 25.2 since i drove out of the dealers.
Although i took a wee drive through to grangemouth and back and each direction is roughly 26/30miles and mostly motorway, it done it at 31/32mpg (I was having a rather spirited drive mind you so probably wouldve been a bit better at *safer* speeds) ;)

Sorry Phil...thats not me..I'm a PS3/PC man myself...although I expect that this tag is pretty well worn by a few members of different online communities.
Cheers guys, It sounds mlike 22 around town and 30'ish on the motorway when driven "Properly" (at a more "pensionable" speed I guess we are looking at the brochure quoted MPG of mid thirties...so in all not too shabby).
I was looking (infact offered on) an Audi TT...but have just got fed up with the size of the thing...its sooooo tiny...Have always had a soft spot for a GTI anmd was v.impressed with the DSG ( just like I was with the Audi to be honest)
Appreciate your help guys.

I'm getting about 30mpg out of mine. The 2nd memory of the trip computer actually says 29.9mpg at the moment. Can't remember how many miles that covers.
Most of the miles I do is the daily commute to work. I do 40 miles commute (20 each way). A one way journey is made up of 2 miles of town traffic and the rest is A and B roads. Depending on the traffic, I get between 29 to 33mpg.
Its the short trips, especially through town, that brings the mpg down.
-
with a light right foot i can get around 34 on longish journeys,
town driving usually get about 26
-
running on 99 octane does seem to improve average mpg by at least 1-2 miles per gallon. Also makes the engine run alot better, more responsive.
-
manual ED30 I average 27 MPG
motorway you are going to get another 2 or more depending on what speed you cruise at lol
Echo Phils comments on 99 , my car def runs better on Tesco 99
-
Yep, car definitely runs better on 99 Octane.
If I drive normally, I will get 36mpg on the motorway, with 26-28mpg in town.
When driving "enthusiastically", it goes down to 20-22mpg.
That is with a manual GTI, done around 4500miles.
Enjoy the car.

My average over the past 6 months is 30mpg. My problem is short journeys which kill it. Motorway runs of over 15 miles always bring back 37mpg + with my best 44mpg over 180 miles last summer. Brilliant engine, more economical than the 1.6 twin spark in a 147 before it and twice as fast.
-
I've had my Ed30 DSG for 10 days now and done 1050 miles
Have filled up exclusively on Shell V-Power and am getting around 31 mpg average, probably 75% of the driving has been on the motorway. Obeying the Queen's speed limits of course

I got about 38mpg on the run from Silverstone to Sunderland last year, about 215 miles or so and i hardly went under 80 - 85 mph on the way back.
Cracking engine, faultless on long runs and an absolute beast when you want it to be!!
Anybody going to the F1 GP at Silverstone this year? can't remember seeing many Mk 5 GTI / R32's down there last year

Mine is on 800 miles, Ed30, and have done an average of motorway, a and b roads and am firmly stuck on 27.5mpg overall. Should improve though over time?
-
I'm on 8000 miles and average 27-30 mpg with 32 mph on a longer run. I have seen 40 mpg once during a 60 mph motorway procession.
-
im getting 25mpg lately and i havent booted it at all :embarassed: thats town driving.
i dont even get 30mpg on the motorway either
SHOCKING!!!!!
Im lucky to get 300miles out of a full tank (£55)
-
im quite happy with mine, its nice to get to the end of the week and still have half a tank of fuel left
-
whoops should have posted here rather than resurrecting the old "miles per tank" post sorry.
21.1 MPG and with the exception of a couple of spirited drives 20 miles in total the rest has been start stop journeys to work and back, in the city centre of Glasgow...about 20miles per day return journey.
i am really not happy with these figures, does an uprated exhaust cause a reduction in economy? I have a milltex quad fitted. It does increase bhp slightly.....I was hoping to average about 28-30 mpg with a degree of lightfootedness...however I have been careful and the low twenties is a sore one, particularly when she drinks the finest of wines only.
-
how long does your 20 miles journey take you in traffic, and how long would it take you without traffic ?
-
With traffic 30-40 mins...without 15-20.
-
I had a boring trip up to stoke on trent (to pick up some computer bits) from walsall the other day, i was in no rush so i thought it would try the "economy" thing...
I reset the trip just after getting on the M6 at J10, and arriving at overclockers 39 minutes later, had covered 32 miles and averaged 49mph (this was the vast majority at 55-60 on the mototway, 2 miles dual carrage and a mile of town) and averaged.....47.7mpg!!! I have pics to prove. (I have the 18 inch monzas and DSG)
I had to go again the next day to pic up some bits i had forgot and had the opportunity of using the "Dad chariot" - an 06 plate Golf 1.6 FSI, using cruise con set at 57mph I got a 56 mpg average.
On both trips the MPG dropped on the return as I was bored stupid from looking at the read doors of Eddie Stowbarts and decided to "make progress", as they say.
-
Manual ED30
My long term average is 30mpg. Motorway/A roads/Town to and from work mostly.
On a motorway run it will average mid thirty's, best is over 40mpg doing a constant 60mph.
-
I got over 36 on a gentle drive up to York yesterday from Doncaster, about 45 miles.
Then after 8 laps of a 1.6 mile airfiled circuit it had dropped to 12.7...
