right i might have the chance to buy my brothers mk2 valver, that has been converted to a td :rolleyes: basically my brother is in australia and has been for the past two years, he left his golf in the hands of one of his friends who has sinse, put several engines in it and now has a td engine now what i was wondering was how well do td engines cope with being run on sunflower oil??? he says that it will happily run on sunflower oil all day long, and its a hell of a lot cheaper than deisel :laugh: :laugh:so is it worth my while getting it, should be able to get it pretty cheap and its got coilovers :cool:

That age of TD motor should run OK on a part mix of veg oil. You will need to keep the diesel content up, as it will thin the fuel.
Only thing is you may find it'll hasten the injector pump to it's demise - veg oil can be a bit aggressive on the seals.

ive got a pegeout td for my daily run around which runs on bio diesel. been using it for 18 months now only 80p litre. smells like fish and chips :grin:

it would also run sweet on kerosene!

Kerosene is dry though and can damage the pumps and what have you. To use kerosene, you also need to add oil.
But be carefull with the smell. If PC Plod smells it, he'll have you for tax evasion.

ok sop what sorty of a mix are we talking here a half deisel half vegatable oil??? or more deisel??, im just wondering because it will be really cheap to run if i run it on completely veg oil at like 40p per litre :grin:

If you want to run it on pure veg then you would have to install a fuel heater otherwise it will solidify in your pipes when it's cold outside. I've run peugeot and citroen diesels on 50/50 mix without problems, very cheap if you get used fat from your local takeaway... Re PC Plod - most won't care and are unlikely to stop you anyway as you can buy biodiesel as already pointed out which smells the same. If you want to be 100% legal then you need to register as a biodiesel producer and pay tax on the amount of oil you use each month. Note - you can't do this if you are using new unused veg oil.

I'm sure there is an amount of miles you can do before you need to start paying a duty on it, and i'm pretty sure its well over 10k.

Where sells bio diesel?? Something I wanna look into in the future but nowhere around me sells it

yeh this is what am not to sure about, how do they know how many miles you have done??? you could just say that this is the first time you put it in your car :rolleyes:
