Hey guys, just wanted to warn you all that it looks like the GTI's are being stolen to order again. Aware others have suffered incidents, but thought I should warn you all to be vigilant again.
A friend of mine works for a logistics company that has a large Volkswagen contract. A lot of her colleagues drive GTI's, R32's etc.
I was just telling her to warn her colleagues about a car jacking attempt I suffered on Tuesday when she told me that one guys just been held at knifepoint at his house for the keys to his S3 and another had his house broken into for his GTI keys.
Those two incidents occured in the Leicester area and mine was on the A46 near Stratford-Upon-Avon.
Might be worth beefing up your home security this weekend.
-
Thanks for the warning Mike
Is it worth having something like this as a sticky? If that's practical, that is ...
-
I'm afraid I think its something Golf GTI and R32 owners need to be genuinely aware of.
I bought mine knowing a colleague in Wilmslow had been broken into and threatened for his GTI's keys which they then took and another guy in Manchester had been beaten up in a car park in Manchester for his.
I had thought the initial criminal demand for the GTI had passed now though but clearly it hasn't.
I'm lucky I've got a 7 Stone dog that I think will be good enough security in the home, but I'll definitely be purchasing some form of
in-car personal security as I might not be lucky enough to out manouver the next guys that try to car-jack me.

About a month ago a friend of mine suffered the same fate. Three balaclaved thiefs brandishing knives smashed through the patio door at 10:00pm. The patio door is in the lounge, he and his family (two young children and wife) were watching TV at the time and as you can imagine they were completely shocked. They threatened him for the keys to his new GTI which he obviously could not handover quick enough, 2 hours later the car was involved in a high speed pursuit after they had used it in a robbery, this resulted in them totalling the car. Luckily they were caught but as usual in this country got away very lightly!! His wife and children have still not fully recovered from the incident and I don't expect them to for sometime. The theft of his GTI has put him off having nice cars for life, its a shame that you can't seem to have anything nice anymore !! It just shows the legnth that people will go to steal cars!!!
-
I am quite concearned by this!! I am stubborn enough to try and hold on to my keys and get myself into strife!! Because of this I am going to get the APR remap and the anti theft immobiliser so that even if someone tries to start the car with the key, it won't fire up. It will turn over though. Its a couple of hundered quid but worth it I think!

Well that was my first reaction when they blocked me with the van. I'd seen there was at least two of them and that they were both twice my size so I was thinking about what I had in the car to hit them with. Unfortunately as i've only had it about 3 weeks I've not had chance to accumulate much in it yet so there wasn't anything, not even the dog!!
But when I saw the reverse lights come on and them start reversing towards my front end I was more concerned about them not damaging the car. Thats when I moved towards driving down the inside of them, but they then drove diagonally forward from their central road position to block that exit route. Luckily that left me enough space in front to go round the outside of them and blast along the wrong side of the road clear the traffic and get away.
Whilst I can see the merits in the immobiliser you mention, my concern would be in a break in situation, the group would then come back into the house, this time really pi**ed off and batter you or threaten your family until you tell them how to start it. In reality if they've got in your house, aren't you just going to be wanting to get them away from you and your family as quickly as possible, thats where the car insurance comes in to play.
-
Yea, its far from a perfect solution. if they have your house and your family inside then I can see that it could cause more problems!
Sounds like you did well to get away there mate.
-
Damn! I was thinking of going back to Stratford at the weekend to see my folks.
Where abouts on the A46 did it happen? How did they try to get the car?
Real shame that there are people out there who think they can just take what the want and devestate a family in the process.
-
well they come round to mine and they get an 8 month old rottweiler on them and then a shotgun down there throat untill the boys in blue arrive
-
An unfortunate part of the world we live in. If they want my car they can have it. At the end of the day its an object and can be replaced.
-
If they still want my car after they remove the knife blade from their throat, they're welcome to it.

It was near Evesham. There's 3 roundabouts close together there and it was inbetween two of them.
Waited till I was nearly stationary, then drove down middle of road stopping in front of me and tried to block me in by stopping dead in front of me (there was traffic behind me). Not sure if they were planning on ramming me or just blocking me in further by reversing, but they'd left a gap down there left hand side and when they tried blocking it they left me just enough room to manouver.

As I live in Stratford this is a bit close for comfort!! I am in the processes of sourcing a MK5 GTI, glad you managed to get away but very scary non the less!

This makes me sick.
To top it all, a friend of mine had his Cayman car jacked from him last summer, the Police found it outside someones house and they also found another car there.
Caught red handed? Well, it went to court last month... £250 fine and community service.
What's going to stop them with such lenient punishments.

This is the problem mate - it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better
The sooner the BNP get into power the better.
-
Anyone caught thieving red handed should have their hands chopped off
£250 fine - I bet they were given a budget of a quid a week to pay it too
-
Scary stuff, I ive directly betwen the 2 incidents Mike mentions. Ive just hidden my keys!!

My old car was nicked by some BNP twits! cant stand them c0ck suckers! They cant organise sh1t... let alone run a country

Teddy, I suspected you of being a closet racist when reading some of your previous posts about Nigerians... The minute the BNP get into power in this country, the faster it will go down the sh1thole. And if you're not then why do you openly support a racist political party?
Sorry for hijacking the thread Mike and I'm glad you got away. Seeing that outsourcing is now the in-thing I think we should outsource punishment to China - not India because they're still a democracy of sorts and they'd probably slap a 5000 rupee fine on the scum which would be the same as £250

Yes I suspected the same... hence my subtle post above. Each to their own i guess. If KGB dude wants to waste his vote.... thats his call. What I love about racists is that they are just so easy to wind up   *nudges* TeddyKGB then give him a ooops up side his head!!
-
Its so wrong they can nick your car and get such a sh!t fine. Basically the goverment dont give a sh!t cause they dont have to deal with this kind of stuff.
If i was awake when a break in was happering. My keys are not going with them i tell you.
-
The law should definitely be changed. As is the case in the USA, I should be free to blow the head off anyone breaking in and entering my property

Hi, new here , i have just noticed this post which reminds me of a customer of mine who had a brand new yamaha R1, about 4 years ago
he was in north london, just has he pulled up at a set of lights when two men run up to him and tried to 'jack' his bike.but
He would not hand over his bike and took his keys out of the ignition and chucked them as far as he could into a hedge, now the robbers
had no chance of getting the bike, pulled out a handgun and shot him in the foot twice. the foot is still of no use and needs a brace
on it full time. I would hand over my keys as insurance would cover it , too many nutjobs out there.
Happy days

Amen, self preservation society! an i dont pay over a grand a year in insurance for no reason!
-
I agree, self preservation is the key here, and I was in no way advocating people should do anything other than hand over the keys if caught in a situation.
Though I think its far better to try and avoid the situation altogether, as in the case with the Yamaha owner, we don't know if they wouldn't have still shot him in the foot to stop him pursuing them, there's no guarantee that handing over the keys wont result in you still getting a battering or worse.
It's important to remain vigilant - has the same car been behind you for a particularly long period of time?
Allow for an escape route - always ensure you have left a big gap between you and the car in front when at junctions and traffic lights etc.
Aware of your surroundings - Are there people hanging around traffic lights or good spots for people to hide from view?
Be secure - Always keep your doors locked. A failed attempt to open the door will buy you valuable seconds to drive off.
Be Suspicious - The gentle rear end shunt is a common favourite to get you out your car, if you suffer this then be on your guard, make them get out their car and come to you, lower the window slightly with the door locked and get them to follow you to somewhere you will feel safer parking to exchange details. If they're genuine they wont object if they do then take down there registration and call the Police.

Oh dear.. I see the usual suspects piping up at the mention of the BNP.
No one is more racist than the labour party.

The bl00dy countries up sh1t creek now man. Who is running this country anyway? As it’s not the government. I'm not racists but I suggest we get out of the EU and be more like the Ozzys. If you want to live in a country then live by their rules. Then send all the rapists, pedophiles, perverts etc back to their own country to sort out, or just shoot them. Then remove all mosques and stop making the tax payers work to keep the lazy barstewards who wont work in beer, drug and fag money..
I’m seriously considering moving out of this serious sh!t hole of a country, and let all barstewards continue to bum from and penalize the people who have worked and studied hard to try and make a better life for themselves..
You want the country…take it, your welcome to it..
That’s my two pence worth anyway
-
Not all people of the same race are all the same, but many are here to abuse the system, period. Its these f3ckers that we need to stop coming in. The system was and is weak.... its just taken the government so long to address these issues.
-
Does anyone know if 5 door GTIs are more likely to be half inched than 3 doors? As a 3 door owner I like to think mine wouldn't make a good getaway car.
-
Well mines a 5-Door, but my mates in Manchester was a 3-Door I'm afraid.
I guess it depends on whether theres more than two of them needing to make a getaway
They aren't just stolen to be used as getaway cars though although I think they have realised there less likely to have trackers fitted than EVO's and Subaru's so are beginning to be used for that.
They're stolen to order to have its plates swapped with one someones crashed.
They're stolen to be shipped out the country to foreign buyers.
They're stripped for parts to sell onwards.
And for various other reasons.
-
Now that I think about it The GTI wouldn't make a good getaway car, 4 big blokes and a boot full of swag would make it about as fast as 2 litre mondeo.

But faster than a 2 litre Mondeo with 4 big blokes and a boot full of swag in it.
