Looking for suggestions as to what I should do? I was going to try taking the bumper off and straightening it out as best I can, but I suspect I'm going to need a new bumper. Are these just ordinary bumpers that are sprayed up or are they specially to order colour coded? If so, where do I get a replacement :'(

:'(

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!! shes only just come out of hibernation as well. :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
im pretty sure u buy a bumper ready for spraying rich, i dont fancy your chances of getting it straight again. :-\
i dont think you'll find anything much good in the breakers, how bought trying s11ep's man???
-
I might well do that, S11EPS, what do you reckon? You're right only just out of hibernation and her first day out this year........... >:(
-
What did you hit then rich? :( or what hit you?
-
Garage wall.........hate to admit it, but she was parked on the drive and I came back from the pub and decided to put her in the garage........had too much to drink and got it wrong........wish I had let Hazel do it now >:( :'(
-
Oh nooooooooooo. :'(

Take the bumper off, there,s probably a metal beam behind the plastic, if you remove the bumper from the metal it may be ok, then its a matter of straightening the metalwork or replacing it, I think. failing that I,ve got a clipper kit to fit to my cab some time in the future, and its got the same bumpers as yours at the moment, wont be for a while though.
-
oh dear, I remember dinking my old 1.4 Match in the car park...
Feel for u man... but at least u didnt hit another car so its just a case of getting a new bumper etc... wont bite into ya insurance.
-
just a minor complication rich!!! remeber dont drink and drive!! even on your own driveway!!!! lol, nah seriously bumper off and have a look, if there no way can be staightened, whats the bumper like on your mk1 project?? if the same get it painted bingo cheap fix!!
let hazel park it next time rich!!

Ouch, bet you woke up and went :o :o :'( :'( :'(
Not as bad as it looks, but I know how you feel.
Steve.

could probably fix that using a heat gun and a bit of time?
-
Hmmmm, heat gun........now that might be a really good idea. Disconnect the plastic from the metal (as previously mentioned) straighten the metal and gently heat gun the plastic back to shape..........I'm cheering up, I'll try it, nothing to lose ;)
Thanks for the idea's and comments.........this site and the people here are great ;)
-
sorry to see that rich, looks like you`ll be busy over the holiday
-
Rich,
Thats really bad news mate, I'm sorry to hear thats happened. But as a few people hear have suggested, take it apart and have a good look at the damage. Should be easily repairable, as it is only plastic. Even a bit of time shaping it with some filler should work. As for spraying, you maybe able to the job yourself. Like you said, what have you got to lose?

Cheers guys and girls ;)
Unfortunately I'm working the whole of the easter break...........but I've got back early this evening so I'm going to whip it off now and see just how bad the damage is. I've got my fingers crossed that once I get it off, it'll try and spring back to its original shape :-\
-
these young 'uns ;D
I had something a bit like that. I got another metal peice from the scrapper and swapped it over. my indicator was smashed though and there's still a dink in that wing. :(
good luck
-
think they call the metal piece the 'bumper bar'. ;)
-
that's it
-
Managed to seperate the plastic from the bumper bar........bit fiddley, but took my time.
Tried Blue MK2's suggestion in using a heat gun on the plastic. Didn't think it was working so put the heat gun away........came back to the bumper plastic 5 minutes later and it was all straight :o :o :o Blue MK2 you are a star ;) Still a little cosmetic damage from the physical scrape of hitting the wall but that should touch up enough to hardly notice.......I hope :-X :D
The bumper bar is quite badly damaged, however, I can get one of those from anywhere...........whats even better is it looks like the Mk2 bumper bar might be the same.......I'm whipping that one off my mk2 tomorrow to see for sure, but needless to say I'm smiling again now ;D ;D
.........And there was no damage to the wing or front valance..............boy was I lucky.........and a good lesson well learnt ::)
-
Good to hear that Rich, a happy easter after all. ;D
-
Much happier now, thats for sure. Hope everone else had a good Easter :)
-
great news rich - you made the repairs sound easy!!
is anyone else slightly worried about rich and hazels driving skills ;) :D
-
nah he said he was pished ;)
-
Its not his driving skills that should be called into question, but his drinking skills - you better get some practice in before the VWAction meets come round ;)
-
Rich, remember - Drinking and driving wrecks rides
-
I wont even touch alcohol if I know im driving within the next 2-3hrs...
-
I had too much to drink at lunch time and shouldn't have attempted to move it in the first place. Thats the whole reason Hazel drove the car home.
-
i was hinting at the recent audi vs a pug clash - now this 'dink' , hey rich , you could be come a proffessional panel beater with all this practise ;) :D

Wasn't planning on driving on the road.........just thought I should put the car into the garage instead of leaving it on the drive........big mistake ::)

Well I guess if you look at the pair of us.............however, apart from rolling a Golf GTI at 18 and hitting a deer 10 years or so ago.......that is the first blameable accident that I have had........thats not too bad in 18 years :)
-
in that case looks like the GTI roll shocked you into being a sunday driver :P lol
-
