Water in the foot well is very common in mk2's most common places are around the rear lights and boot lid. But i found out 1 morning when i had 2 inches of water where my feet should be. I discovered a seal around the sun roof have worn away letting in water. Roll back the sun roof and in the corners are two drain holes they run the whole lenght of the windscreen and drain the water of somewhere. Im not 100% sure yet as i havnt got it fixed but im pretty sure this is the problem and parking on a sloped driveway doesnt help much either.....hope this info can help you out let me know how u get on.....DM

if found the water leak, its the piece of plastic covering the sill as its lifted up a little allowing water in because i took the carpet out to dry on tuesday and found a puddle of water in the well and next to the sill protector. wats the best way to dry out what must be fireproofing that is under the carpet as it dripping wet

Its the soundproofing. Take it right out, you may need to cut it out depending how much it goes under the seat/tunnel area? Then get a lot of tissue and press it on to soak up the water. In between, use a hair dryer on it. Keep it in warm room like boiler cupboard in your house when you get as much water as you can out for about 2-3 nights.
The only problem you may encounter is the smell depending on how thorough you are getting the water out of it. Lynx doesn't help :(
