i need one, they are £10 on ebay :) VW want £18 which is fine...
one thing i want to know, the VW facias do they have like a metal cage on the back? or is it just all plastic.. im sure i have seen ones with a cage?
-
does the cage not come with the headunit?
-
yes, but im sure iv seen the actual facia with a cage round it..
-
Some fascia's come with a side wall that can be up to a couple of inches deep. The steel cages come with the headunits. :nerd:
-
hum should buy from vw or save £7 on ebay then,... lol
-
You need to see them in the flesh really. Some look pants and protrude too much from the dash, others are a different colour to the dash. It is worth looking around.
-
yeah thats my thoughts, but VW wont order one without my buying, and i cant check ebay ones... so i guess ill have to gamble... ill go with VWs as surly theirs will be perfect?

The VW one is a decent match as far as fitment is concerned. The matt finish doesn't quite match (like mine), but I guess and exact match is near impossible. I did see one guys fascia who had the good thinking to get some anthracite leather and cover the fascia with it (to match his seats) and that looked lovely

I've got the VW one in mine, it had a divider in the middle so you could fit a single din headunit and a pocket but you just need to cut this bit out. You dont see where you've cut once the headunit is in, it's set back slightly from the front of the facia.
I think the colour match is about as good as you'll get, and the fit is pretty much spot on.
You can either screw the headunit directly to the facia and the fit it to the dash as per the std headunit or you can fit facia into the dash and then secure the steel cage that comes with your headunit to the fasia so you can remove your headunit as normal with the removal pins, so if you need to fit rca's etc and you dont need to take the dash apart.

im not sure that made too much sence? but i get bits of it.. lol... cool il just go to vw and order it then... bloody annoying i have to go in to order a cheap part!

Sorry mate, ill try again :embarassed:
The standard headunit is bolted into the dash, you have to remove all the trims to get at the screws.
When you fit an aftermarket headunit you can attach the facia to the headunit, the headunit has various threaded mounting points on the sides, you then screw the facia into the dash, ie like the standard headunit.
Or,
You can fit the facia to the dash and then fit the steel cage that comes with your headunit. Which is what i did.
This is what my facia looked like, this isnt a VW one but its the same idea

The pocket comes out but then you need to remove the bit thats left in the middle.
Hope this makes a bit more sense
