Title: IT'S ARRIVED!!!!!
Post by: mr magoo on 17 March 2008, 11:17
Hi All

Ed30 has finally made it! Landed on my drive on Friday morning, I've not done anything but drive it since.

It's an absolute beauty. Not worked out how to post pics properly yet but it's a 5 dr Ed30 in steel grey so you'll know what it looks like.

They've upgraded me to the new touch-screen sat nav which appears great (not really used it much yet).

There are one or two minor issues which have in no way detracted from my enjoyment but I would appreciate advice from anyone who can offer it:

* There's a rattle in the front passenger seat when there's no-one in it and the car's doing between about 20 - 40 mph (not that it does those speeds that much )

* iPod prep. I've been billed for "iPod Preparation" at £227.02. I was expecting a cradle in the front centre armrest, however all that's there is a plug socket that the delivery driver said I needed to buy a cable to plug the iPod in to. I popped in to Liverpool VW (despite previously swearing I would never cross their threshold again) and they said the iPod cradle is £185 inc fitting?? But I thought this was what I ordered??

Oh yes - and it IS half cloth half leather

Had mine 10days now and done 600miles.... and loved every one of them... apart from having to keep filling it up with go go juice!!

I don't know if it is different if you have the new RNS510, but my IPOD prep was a cradle built into the armrest with individual inserts that slid in depending on what type of IPOD you had. The IPOD plugged directly into the bottom of the cradle and didn't need any extra wiring or adapter cables. It sounds like another VW form of rip-off to me

not VW rip off, but error in ordering.

Down to customer or Salesman, but not VW themself.

Well done Mr Magoo,

I’m loving mine too. I’ve got a couple of minor issues also, so have posted a couple of questions (very minor).

There’s so much go, I’m struggling to be good!

Cheers... Hotrod

Definitely no customer error re the iPod prep , I'm waiting to hear back from the brokers.

Re the touch screen sat nav - yes I like it. Had a tomtom before and it (so far) appears comparable in terms of user-friendliness and accuracy.

Cheers all

Sounds like you have the aux socket not the full ipod prep. The Aux socket is £25.

Hi VW-Sales

I've not seen the actual order form as I went through a broker, but the broker's invoice says (exact wording):

iPod Preparation   Ã‚£227.02 exc vat

Not sure if it makes any difference but I also have (amongst other things) (again, exact wording on the invoice):

Front Centre ArmRest   Ã‚£99.06 exc vat
M/Funct SW+Paddles   Ã‚£326.09 exc vat
Satellite Navigation     Ã‚£1,197.02 exc vat

(they've given me the new, f-a-b touch screen sat nav)

Cheers

M

On the 2008 pricelist... if you pay for the satnav... you get the highline computer and armrest "thrown in" with it.
So not sure why you'd pay for the satnav and arm rest?

Yes but I ordered it in November, and I think the sat nav now costs 1800?? I paid around 1200 for it.

(Believe the car was built first week of March).

Thanks

Doubt it was built first week in March mate. That'd be one quick turn around. Mine is build week 14 (next week basically) and I was told that you normally get the car 4 weeks from then (end of April).. But I may well of been informed wrong. Be nice if it was turned around in a week. But can't see how that'd be poss (shipping, PDI, Valet, etc etc)

THATS WHY I WANTED THE WORDING.

It appears you have paid twice for the same thing.

227 for i pod prep is a front center arm rest with i pod prep inside.

99 for an arm rest as well.

I would go back to the broker and tell them you have paid for the i pod prep (which means it should be ready to go), and now your told you need extra cables/wires etc.

Thanks, will do. I'm just waiting to hear from them.

Other than that (and the rattle which is nothing really) - the car is absolutely perfect. As Jeremy Clarkson says - (paraphrase) "It's hard to think of any other car that does anything like as much, anything like as well"

Specified my MY2007 with DVD Sat Nav and iPod in place of CD multichanger. Thats what I got - the iPod is neatly integrated under the armrest and works perfectly.

Agree that it sounds like a cock-up in the order :embarassed: but the dealer should still be able to retro-fit this for you.

I would agree with that!! You have paid for the ipod in armrest, then been charged for the armrest additionally... and then been given the £25 ipod lead instead.  :lipsrsealed:
