Title: vr6/g60 clutch on mk4
Post by: l4v15 on 16 March 2008, 12:42
hi guys. i need a new clutch and probably flywheel aswel, but its soo damn expensive. someone mentioned a while ago that a vr6 or g60 clutch and flywheel will fit. corrado ones yea? so what do i need, clutch and flywheel from either g60 or vr6 or one from each or what? also, will it definately just fit straight onto a 1998 gti 20v t, very strange. u sure you dont need to change anything else to fit it? also what will it drive like afterwards? any difference? will it b ok for 220bhp?

That's not too bad, mate.  Did you get all the parts yourself from VW, or did you buy a kit?

Got a feeling mine will need doing in the not too distant future.

I wonder if my clutch is ok sometimes.  I sometimes find it hard to get it to go into 1st, and sometimes when going into second it doesn't seem to go in 100% and I get a crunching sound, like a learner trying to change gear :)

Mod squad top tip :
Try putting some white grease on the moving parts on top of the gearbox - works wonders :afro:

It is recommended to change the flywheel when you change the clutch to save on two lots of labour.
Be prepared for a shock when you start getting prices

is your car mapped or standard? if standard do you plan to get it mapped?

if no map and no plans put a standard one in

flyhweel £210
Release bearing £40
Clutch kit - not sure - around £200 - £300

if mapped go uprated - i fitted the Sachs clutch from JBS Autodesigns - £468 though! but will work with the flywheel and bearing i priced above
