Right it depends on your head unit TBH but you should have a red live and a yellow live wire (please check colours before doing anything because thay do vary between head units!)
The red will be the main live and on the ignition so cuts off when you switch off.
It sounds like Your yellow one which connects to the live also is on a switched live prob on the ingnition aswell,
You need to put it onto a permanent live so it keeps your memory!
HTH

and if swapping red and yellow dosen't sort it... repliy back as mk3's do have igntion switch problems!!
-
thanks fellas will get on it tomorrow and let you know the outcome
-
well i pulled the hu out its a sony by the way theres a red and a yellow but i was quickly stopped in my trackes all looked a bit complacated  how do i put the yellow into a permanant live ? do i need to take all the ingnition out if so is it hard to do
-
Swap the red and yellow wires behind the headunit
-
thanks taxiboy ill try that
-
i had a nightmare trying to sort my problem out today as i was messing about with the live wire behind the headunit i touched the back of the headunit with the live it sparked when it touched so now my headunit dont work  the headunit does not turn on it wont play or the screen wont come on strangely all it will do is eject a cd i checked the fuse in the headunit it looks ok
so have i killed it or is there a fuse i could have blown that i can change
-
Have no fear, sounds like you blew the fuse on the car. Go to the fusebox(near your right knee) and on the detachable cover is a key that will tell you the fuse to examine.
-
renewed fuse swapped live wires around everythings working spot on now
thanks for the help fellas
