Car Tax,
Great, i'm really going to enjoy shelling out £415 in a months time,
What are the government thinking?
Thats be going back to getting the tax stamps from the post office next time round to try and soften the blow.

ok after more research (the telegraph claimed the golf gti was in this partcicular band) i think the gti is in band F which would make the 12 months tax 210.
anyone care to confirm this?

Yep Band F £210. I used the BBC Budget Calculator, apparently I am going to be £300 a year better off

Hi Duffy,
The GTI and ED30 are in band F... yes £210... however looks like £260 next year and £270 the year after.
Cheers... Hotrod

I'm in band M.. super!
just ran my rallye through it aswell.. £185 a year, and because it's pre -92 it has no cat and exempt from emissions testing, so it more than likely throws out more pollution than the one i have to pay £440 a year on, way to go Gordon!

How old does a car have to be to become tax exempt, surely my mk1 must be getting close?

It used to be a rolling 25 years but New Labour put a stop to that and froze it at cars built before Jan 1st 1973.
