what are the symptoms?

In dramatic cases the crownwheel machines it's way out of the case.
Known as 'riding up with wear'
-
If a pin does let go, they quite often blow a hole through the gbox.
-
I can back this up!!
I've had it happen twice now and both times made a fat hole followed by gearbox oil flying everywhere!
-
so the occasional knock i get whilst pulling away hard is probably not a diff problem then?
-
Nooooooooooooo and be thankful!
More likely to be a bearing, bush or engine mount. Start of with a static check with the wheels off to find any unwanted 'play'.
Dave.
