Title: Bonnet Repaint !!!
Post by: Cass on 12 March 2008, 19:21
Looks like I'm going to have my bonnet repainted under warranty at the local VW bodyshop

When I first picked up my car in September 2006 it looked fabulous in the showroom and all appeared perfect. Next day, with the sun shining behind me (yes it sometimes does shine in the NE ), I noticed what I thought was polish residue on the rear edge of the bonnet. It turned out that the factory paint had in fact been scraped off in two locations by some dork who had obviously lifted the wipers from the screen without parking them correctly and the top coat/lacquer had been scraped off, exposing the white undercoat. Dealer accepted it was their fault (probably the PDI inspection or valeter) and the car went in for the offending areas to be touched up. First go lasted less than a week and the paint began flaking off again. Second go has lasted until now but the paint has now lifted again and is actually starting to bubble up  Contacted dealer today and have to take it into the bodyshop this week for a look. Seems there will be either 2 options, localised repair/repaint again or a full bonnet respray. Personally don't fancy the latter but this may be necessary, given the fact that the two previous attempts have faied and the paint is pearlescent metallic.

Defo re the Tw@ts comment

Out of interest, what colour is your car as if it's silver they are a bugger to match,

Also make sure they pay to have the bonnet blended into to the front wings etc!!!

I had a full bonnet respray on my 16v Polo. It was new at the time and done under warrenty. The reason for the respray was due to soft paint leading to tons of stone chips. I had no problems there after and the finish was great.

You got it lucky...

Our Peugeot was sent in for panelbeating and respray (Car was hit by a cyclist) and to have some stone chips repaired and the panelbeater called and told us the cars paintwork had never been baked

Whole car is being resprayed

Hey I have a excuse. It was my birthday. And I was having fun and then there was a brand New Audi and then I went flying. Was fun actually  :embarassed:

My mom was about to pull away and he hit her in the same spot I hit the Audi. So yes. Everyone in South Africa thinks they are doing the tour de France

Hi Telboy,

If you ever need a good bodyshop then Poole Audi is excellent. They repaired my Reflex Silver 4-Mo a couple of times (vandalised) and blended in the silver a treat... you’d never know! I’m a fussy bast•rd and it was excellent... not cheap however.

Cheers... Hotrod
