Alrighty chaps,
Been on this forum for a while now, and have convinced myself it may be an idea to sell my Mk3 8v and get meself a VR6...
Only thing stopping me is that I've spent a fair amount over the last 2 years on my 8v - routine stuff, but it all adds up. I'd hate to have to fork out for it all again when I buy a new car...
Anyway, if I do go ahead, I need to value my 8v. From the threads I've seen here, they ain't too desirable, so what do you really think she's worth (be honest!)
Registered January 1998 (R plate)
3 door Mystic Blue
Totally Standard (no mods)
Air Con
Usual Electrics (all working)
Full history inc receipts
Condition - very good (one small dent where someone kicked it last week, but I may well get that removed by Dentmaster)
No other dents / scrapes
65k miles
She's got new front tyres, new cambelt / tensioner, new exhaust and will be MOT'd next week
I think ?3,900 but I may be way off the mark. I'd be selling it in Walton (Surrey).
What do you boys (and girls!) think?
Also, what would I get VR6 wise for this kinda money?

Despite the jokes and p!ss taking on here they are desirable. Not necessary by golf enthusiasts though.
Think ?3,900 sounds ok. I think you could start a bit higher though. Mileage is quite low, Fsh is good, air con is quite rare on 8vs. 98 is the latest available.
Depends on how quickly you want to sell it. I'd start at ?4,250 if you're not in a hurry.

A colleague of mine has just sold a mint 8v this week low mileage, blah blah blah for ?3,900. They started higher at about ?4400 I think, but they'd been trying to sell it since January, had been in Autotrader every week since mid Jan and it only went on Monday finally, apparently it was the only call they had about it as well.
Was surprised by that when they told me how long it took to sell.

surprised at that too. i sold my '96 polo in 2 days, was dead cheap.. got more than i wanted though.. bonus! 8)

If you have a look on parkers.co.uk and you will get a good idea of the prices, on there it reckons these values for a 2.0 GTi 3 door on a 98/R-
Original Price ? 14820
Dealer Retail ? 4435
Private Good ? 4005
Private Poor ? 3075
Trade ? 3505
So not too far away with your first valuation, I agree with jtevr6 to put it up at ?4,250 and the air con is a good selling point.
