So having problems with the 16v. It's not holding the revs & literally stalls as it starts, battery & oil light go out when the keys turned but then back on as it dies.
It's not a violent judder or anything, just total loss of power. Have to keep the revs up around 2K to keep it ticking over.
Only started this morning, drove to work fine then typically started playing funny buggers now I'm here!
Got the RAC coming out to 'check it out' so hoping it's the battery rather than the alternator. Battery looks shagged to be quite honest.
Ideas?

Turns out to be something to do with the throttle, either the little motor which is effectively the auto-choke or the air pressure sensor....
Into the local specialist though to be checked out.
RAC man fixed it with a cable tie  Gotta love gaffer tape & cable ties!!
Looks like the guy I had it off had issues as the throttle adjustment is at the max. adjustment available & the wiring is pretty mullarded.
Fun times ahead!

So the local VW specialist can't get me in until Tuesday, so on top of a car that now has to idle at 2000 revs to not stall the power steering feels loads heavier?
Argh bloody VW's! :embarassed:
Looks like I'll be after lifts to work for the rest of the week then. :undecided:

To be fair to the old girl she's only just got 100K on the clock & the little problems I'm having are dwon to previous owners not taking care or taking short cuts when things have gone wrong.
Never fear though, will get it right as rain & looking niiiiiice!

thats the spirit dude!

right im really tempting fate here but the only problem ive had was when the diff in the gearbox popped. it was easy to source a recon gearbox and get it fitted so that was a bonus.
