Title: New user looking at buying a GT TDI - Few Questions
Post by: Ronin on 10 March 2008, 00:07
Hi there, I'm hoping to be a slightly more regular user very soon, I'm in the market for a GT TDI and have looked at 5 now (annoyingly missing out on a good one last Friday).

I looked at one today which was very tidy with low mileage with some nice little extra features added by the owner. I won't go into any major detail in case it's a user on here, but i have one question regarding the feel of the car. When taking it for a test drive I couldn't help thinking that there was a considerable vibrating sensation from the clutch peddle, especially at a standstill. Is the quite common with the diesel or is this a tell-tail sign of something worse to come?

Only other question I have, how tricky are the steering wheels to remove as it could do with a replacement leather item as this one is somewhat worn for my liking.

Thanks, Chris

Oh, by the way it was an S reg 110 model done around 90k

Not to sure about your clutch mate  :undecided:

Maybe one of the derv lads on here (wheres rhyso when you need him ) will be able to help you?

Steering wheel is very easy to do : http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/thread/917490.aspx

i'm here you cheeky git

vibration could be a sign the flywheel is on its way out  although due to the power of the dervs  they do produce a bit more chatter at idle

It's not severe, it was just quite noticeable, and to be fair it's the second one I've driven that had a similar sensation.

the only time you might notice a vibration on the clutch is when she's cold, you shouldn't get anything once she's warm.
