-
I've always found elephant to be very reasonable.
-
elephant was 300 quid cheaper than everybody else i tried.
give it a shot
-
tried it n it was like 2800
-
Same for me im 19, 1.4L and quinn cheapest at 2300!! lol
due to age i think just gotta deal with it i guess :P
-
i've been with quinn for over 3 years now and they were the cheapest when i first started driving. £1300 for a fiat cinquecento sporting, in my second year it went down to £800ish though. So after your first year it will drop considerably and if you avoid any bumps or stupid drivers it will decrease in price each year as well as keeping your no claims bonuses.
-
I know this isnt what your going to wana hear but your 17 mate and that is life! a 1.4 for your first car is going to rape you, I got a 1.2 fiat punto for my first car and that was 1500 for the first year so you just have to either deal with it or do what everybody else does and drive around in a 1.1 for a few years!
Rubbish isnt it? imagine what we would all be driving if insurance was cheap?
-
jeesus it doesnt seem that long ago i was in the same boat, i was with Admiral for a year or 2..... HIC got me a decent 240ish for my gti MK3, search for the HIC Herts Insurance Company ;thread;
-
im with direct line with a '94 1.4 cl and 1 years n.c.b and i'm paying £1020 in the form of 12x £85 ...

-

-
A tip with elephant:
I'm 19, 2 full years NCB, and am holder of the policy. I only pay £1197 FC with £100 excess on a Mk3 GTi 16valve worth £2500. No mods.
To get it lower, add your parents as named drivers on the policy. Mine shot down by over £400 by just putting my mum and dad on it (even though they never drive it)
Also with Elephant, you earn No Claims as a named driver too, so is worth doing. You must be living in a high risk postcode / high risk job to have a quote that high at 17 mate. I paid £450 TPFT on a 1.3 Fiesta when I was 17 with the NFU!

Get something older like a mk1 polo/golf/jetta on a classic car policy with limited mileage
-

Im 19 and pay £1900 for a 2litre Gti. You must be gettin mugged, mine was only £1300 but due to bad credit and payin monthly, it racked up too 1900.
-
My mate is 18 in a mk3 3 door 1.9 diesel as his first car and is paying nearly 2k.
Glad im getting older for tihs very reason
-
My first car was a 1.6 100bhp golf this was 900 tpft, just got a vr6 and im pushing on 3k.
-
Get a 1.2 corsa. They are very cheap to insure.
Also add your dad if he's reasonably old and hasn't any convictions etc - doing this lowered my premium at first by a good few hundred pounds.
-
Simply get a small car for your first car, i have a rusted up renault 5, now im 19 with 2 years under my belt i can have a gti.
Dont run before you can walk!

I used kwick fit in my first year on a 1.3 mk2 it was 1600 quid third party fire and theft and this year with norwich union it's 938 or something! kwick fit i think are the best as i spent most of my time trying insurance quotes like everyone says add your mum and dad on the policy.
