OK peeps,
I've had my Golf 1.8 GTI 16v serviced and I picked it up yesterday - f--k me it's quick :o . I had the following done:
- New Techniclutch Road Racing Clutch fitted - £130.00 Labour (£90 part off of ebay)
- Full Service - £150 Labour + £69.11 Parts
- New Engine Mounting - £50
- New Clutch Cable - £??.?? (dunno cause it's been in for over two days getting done as the mechanic f**ked the oil seal up first time round)
- New Gear Linkage for a smoother change... I can find fifth gear now yayyyyz!!!
I now feel I have a safe, reliable and workable car and want to start making it "mine"... I'm not too interested in body kits etc, but really like the idea of beefing her stance, adding some decent alloys and installing my stereo.
Making it Mine

I don't wanna go crazy here, as I like the look of them standard. I was thinking:
- New Clear Lights possibly Angel Eyes - I don't want it too chav
- Wide Arches (if mine are not the big ones - how do I tell?)
- Bigger Bumpers - is this worth it - do i have these already?
- Alloys w Spacers - for that wide stance
- Removal of nasty front fogs that have been fitted by one of the last three owners
- Replacement of ignition barrel (I've just done the doors)
- Replacement of boot barrel (I've just done the doors - but this bit looks different in the kit and I may have to extract the new barrel for my boot)
Fitting the Stereo
I had a PC in my last car and I had to make special MDF spacers for the doors. I wanna add these huge great big focal speakers to my car but am curious if I'll have to re-make the door pod housings, and how much of a task is this? Can anyone recommend someone that does this?
I want to keep the interior original, so I think I'll be getting some door cards to kill/mangle. Is this a good idea, or will I be better off just using what I have in the car already and keeping the plastic bits to re-install if I resell?
Anyone got any ideas?

now big bumpers look like mine in my sig...
arches are not the g60 ones and i prefer the original gti ones anyway...get some crystal clear but angel eyes might look chav imo.
get it lowered and don't be looking at more than 40mm on 16" x7 wheels...i'd look for a nice set of original bss ra's. especially if you want to keep it a little oem

If i was you i would do whatever tickled my fancy. If the car is an investment do nothing which you cant put back to standard or replace without too much trouble, if not then fill your boots. I am currently trying to find a good base car which i am gonna change so to the untrained eye looks standard but underneath it all has a proper sound system, brakes that work, lights that light and handles like a proper hatch should, i wanna go impreza baiting!!. Good luck matey make it your own and do what you want its your car and thats what counts.

You don't have the big bumpers, get rid of those nasty after market fogs. Crystal clear are good, angle eye's im not too sure about.
I'm starting to really like my small bumpers and glad I have not got big ones.

cheers guys... have bought a few chrome trim bits on ebay and some clear (not altezza) rear lights as well as side lights.
I am thinking of going for a brushed ally interior (clocks, gearstick, handles, mirror door thingies, etc)
I also would like a diff steering wheel.
my pc is all brushed ally too, so would be cool to incorporate that somehow.
I hope I don't "halfords" it :s

what colour is it? I have some helios blue big bumpers if you're interested?
-
gun metal blue I'd say... I forget what they call it :)

Don't mangle your door cards. I had to buy new ones to replace the ones ruined by a previous owner with these big horrible speakers.
Don't get angel eyes..... on any car ever unless it's a beemer.
Never change the steering wheel! They very rarely look good, and nooooo brushed alloy!
It was built looking the way it does because it looks good, don't muck around with it too much - save your money for engine/body work to make it mint

Cheers kittie...
Some great points there :)
I will refrain from turning it into a dogs dinner :)
The last I wanna do is have a cameo on barryboys.co.uk :)
