If you just want to lower it then some aftermarket springs are the best and most cost effective option. Best (IMO) and I'm sure some others will agree are Eibach Pro Kit. They will drop the car to the height you want and won't cost the earth to buy or fit. They will also have the added bonus of improving body roll.

Does that Eibach Pro-Kit include 4 springs?

And is that all i'll need interms of parts?

Also, how expensive a job is it interms of labour?

Hey

You can lower the car pretty low even with the 18's. I would suggest Koni Springs as they are apparently pretty good from what I have heard. Or the Eibach Pro Kit. Not sure where you get them though? Try awesome?

I think I must stop telling people what to do you should try the maintenance section. There is a lot of info there.

Yep 4 springs in the box and its a straight swap. VW will more than likely want a kidney and left nut to do it, so if you have a local garage you're friendly with I would ask them. Most you should pay for fitting is an hour labour £30 to £50, its an easy job. Or if you are mechanically minded its not hard to do yourself.

Yep, any change to the suspension its wise to get the alignment checked.

Joe - What brand of springs are you selling? I have an Ed 30 and want it just slightly lower but more for the extra firmness.
I find the standard Ed 30 ride very choppy.
Any pics of the car with the old springs on?

Cheers.

H&R springs are good and you get the correct drop, Eibach while good dont drop the 30mm they say they do.

I agree on the H&R as another choice, I orginally wanted Eibach but it was when there was a problem with the rear ride height so went for H&R - cant fault them, ride height is perfect and its firm but not too firm.

I am wanting to lower my Ed30 as I am planning for some 19" CH black edition  Awesome have quoted me £1200 for eibach coilovers and arb's fitted. This is an awful lot of money and more than I really want to spend. All I want to do is drop the ride height a little to make the wheels fill out the arches a bit more, would a good set of lowering springs and arb's possibly H&R achieve the look I am after without denting the wallet to much

Yes it will indeed as this is the main reason for my lowering - £500 for the parts, £120 labour to fit them = job done.

There are some pics of mine knocking about on 19 CH lowered so you can see the height you will get, search and you shall find.

....I'm risking making myself unpopular by saying this, but:

Reading some of the posts on lowering here and on other car sites, too many people are more concerned with the look of their car rather than the handling. What I've learnt from experienced people in full-on motorsport and who also actually build cars, is that you should consider ALL the suspension components. In the case of a practical but fast road car, that means springs, shocks (dampers), and anti-roll bars. You should consider all 3 and how they work together appropriately for the particular car. Even brakes are a factor. I've read and know of so many cases of forum guys fitting what is without doubt a quality component but then finding it gives their car problems - Tyre rubbing, hopping, too stiff for road, camber issues, etc. Spacers are not wise either.

We all love the slammed down look, including myself, but it's only suitable for the track and asking for trouble if you want to drive fast (not necessarily illegally!) on the average public road. I considered the Bilsteins but they are overkill for the road - So are coil-overs on the Mk5 GTI if the truth be known. I was advised professionally and took the good advice and have KoniFSD+Eibach ProKit+Eibach ARB's - Very good feedback, not harsh, no nose-dive under hard braking, extremely flat and planted around corners. I constantly get passengers who are performance car drivers commenting uninvited about my suspension and those I trust to drive. I drove a Porsche yesterday and found the ride feel to be surprisingly similar to my GTI - Awesome exhaust soundtrack too, at all revs, and plenty of torque, but I digress!

Sure, I'd love my GTI to look lower and fill the arches more but NOT at the expense of any handling. Go on an airfield CarLimits course where you take your car to its absolute limits, and then consider how best to mod ALL your suspension. Road and track are different!

I do kind of agree, if your looking to change springs you should seriously consider shocks too on something like the GTI especially.
