Title: Wives & girlie comments!!!!
Post by: telboy on 06 March 2008, 20:33
The other half had a gander at some of the threads being posted and was calling us anoraks!!!! :nerd: Of course it wasn't pink and sparkly enough for her!

The post was the one about interesting police cars that you may have seen and she thought some of the wording was funny, things like lol, ed30 beast, monzas!!!!

What is it with girlies and cars, golf girl pardoned of course as she is an honourary bloke anyway!

What's the worst girlie comment ever given re our beloved cars,

I'll start with what my wife has just said (gotta love her and to be honest wouldn't change her for the world)

"what's an ed30 then??????"  :embarassed: (we've only had it for 6 months!)

My missus ain't too bad to be fair.

She understands why I love the car and what it means to me.  I mean for fecks sake she (and most other woman) loves shoes   Now that is an irrational love

What would she think if she knew we all stood around in fields wearing golfgti t-shirts looking at each others cars going 'oooh.. aaahhh' ?

My Mrs is ok, she's happy as long as I put her in something decent and look after it for her... she currently has a 25th Anniversary GTI which is great for me as its so much more econmical than mine being the TDI version  - I use it for the longer business trips.

When I got the ED30. The wife wanted a drive. OK I said, just mind the alloys on the kerb.

Thats it I'm not driving it .................so It worked then, I have had her (the ED30 of course ) a year now and she still has not driven it!

Its always - 'can I borrow you car', reply 'of course' .....' just mind the alloys, dont hammer it until warm, dont park it anywhere dodgy,..... etc, etc'

Post by: joesgti on 07 March 2008, 09:13
why does its scrape so much, whys it so low,  why do you need such big alloys, why do you have such a fast car when you cant go past 30, why do you need german plates.....your not german!! why do you spend so much money on your car......(why dont you spend it on me) whys the music so loud?

"Now that you have automatic does that mean I can drive it..." - AUTOMATIC!!!!! - ITS DSG - have you got an hour, take a seat....

She never wanted to drive my TT as she reckoned the windows where too small and you couldn't see the end of the bonnet but for some reason she thinks the GTI will be easier to drive and park

Mine has a Audi A3 3.2 Quattro DSG.

I was driving it on the weekend and had a bit of fun with a WR1 Impreza. I commented on how impressed I was at us keeping up when he clearly booted it. Her words were "Oh I always beat the Imprezas"

I was a little impressed with that.

Most common comment:

Sweetie! Please slow down...

My mom says she hates speed and all that. But everytime I clean the car I notice the following small things:

1. The trip computer seems to say the words THRASHED on it. Something to do with the cr@p fuel consumption reading?
2. She hates loud music in the car. And yet... Whenever I switch the dam thing on its full blast?? And its not the gala or turn on function thats set wrong.  :nerd:
3. Leave her with the car for a week or two and when you clean it... Run your finger down the bumper. Im sure that rubber and not dirt.. (No lies)

My poor father has been banned from driving the golf. I still vote woman are hypocritical.

Quote AFTER picking up the car.
"Can i have a go yet"

Some gems here, neither to do with Golfs but at least they're German cars:

1. Friend of mine phoned last night. His (blonde) wife had reversed *his* BMW X5 out of the driveway. Unfortunately she managed to catch one of the gateposts on the way out. She obviously decided not to do things by halves as she scraped *all the way along* the nearside.

2. I'm working with a motor insurance client at the moment, had a look at some total losses, this one is a classic:

On an 07 plate, incident occured 3.3.07 (so the car was no more than three days old!) - S4 quattro, so it had all the traction controls etc:

Straight country road, driver (female) loses control and hits wall, writing the car off

3. Was in Lytham St Annes the other week. Girl driving an Audi Q7, chatting away on her mobile (not handsfree). Thing is, she hadn't unfolded the wing mirrors, they were still tucked in ...

Before any feminists have a go at me - I understand that women tend to have more, small *whoops* accidents like parking dents whereas men tend to have fewer, but far more serious, accidents.

The wife's pretty good, she's into cars a bit as well and does understand how much my car means to me but I still get it now and then:

Go on, p!ss off to your 1st wife
I love driving your gti
Go on! race him! take him out!
Darling, can you slow down please or I'm gonna be sick in you car
Slow down! Slow down! and then she starts hitting me when I don't

I guess it just depends on the time of the month

I say:

Darling, just keep away from the kerbs please.
I want an ed30.

Normally my mom is a pain. No driving fast always lecturing about hitting cyclists etc

However I must say (and I think this counts for most woman) that they do have a thing for cars. They will never admit but most woman do enjoy the thrill of cars.

An example:

Long downhill. Twists and turns (Only on South African mountain passes  ) And my dad is driving the car had. Mother is complaining and then... Dad brings the car into a corner fast (Nice corner) and woops. There happens to be diesal on the road (Probably from some or other MK4 tank)  . Car skids like a maniac and between driver skill and ESP dad after sliding a bit corrects the car and off we go.

Mother however was in her element. She loved it and so did we.
I reckon we should do a test. Let the ladies drive the car for the day and compare their MPG etc with yours that you normally get. I bet you it will be lower than yours.

GOES CRAZY WHEN I'M HAVING FUN IN ED 30  :grin:SO GENERALLY LEAVE IT   :cool:TIL I'M ON MY OWN. SHE WAS MIFFED WHEN I SWOPPED RX8 FOR GTI SO I LENT HER RX8 FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS, CALMED HER DOWN. CANT WRITE WHAT SHE SAID WHEN I SWOPPED GTI FOR ED 30 SUFFICE TO SAY SHE WEREN'T BEST PLEASED BUT YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE

My GF likes the E30. She told me that many a time.
She likes Lambos , but not so fond of Porsches (her previous BF had a Porsche).

She gave mi hints and explicitly said that she would like to drive.  :smug: But she is not insured, she has not driven for a long time (which would make my heart bleed everytime she does a bad gearshift), so I kind of gently skirted all these suggestions for her getting behind the wheel.  :embarassed: Besides, I still haven't had enough of E30. AND it has black rims and white paint. If I scratch it - it's one thing.... :lipsrsealed:
But she does not push the topic, good girl! Also, she does not like to go long distances in the car, because she gets bored on a passenger's seat. Therefore I kill two birds with one stone - I have piece of mind, and I get to drive alone, and for me driving is like meditation.
She told me repeatedly that I love E30 more than her, though.  :lipsrsealed:

My wife got all moody, when I told her I was chopping her 530 Sport for something else and she was getting the GTI instead,

"Its too small, tiny boot, its only a 2litre, it will be too slow, I like big fast cars they are safer etc, etc"

2 months on............"Jeez does this thing pick up fast, overtaking is a breeze, it's easy to park, love the heated seats, that 5 series was ready for a change!!!!, and the best one,  it's much better on fuel (yeah still my credit card though :-)

Well my G/f's aren't usually into cars when I start going out with them, but are usually pretty knowledgeable by the time we split up.

Want my next one to be into them given that I want to get into tweaking the golf and trackdays etc.

My other half loves having a girl that's into cars.  I'm keen to learn how to fix them etc. too...I'm not afraid of getting my hands dirty!  I've had a trackday bought for me in the past too when I had my R32

Comments from other people sometimes annoy me though.  I've only had it once with the Ed30 since I bought it 2 months ago but when I had the R32 people assumed that it was my boyfriends and not mine.  I often stood on the doorstep chatting to salesmen about it instead of the product they were actually trying to sell me! They seemed quite surprised that a chick can actually own such a car AND know a bit about them too.

Did anyone see that TopGear article about a year ago, with Jeremy Clarkson in a reasonably fast car like a Golf GTi on a racetrack, then they but a (racing driver) girl in a FORD TRANSIT and she was only about 2 seconds slower than he had been?
