So we all know the Beetle was dreamt up by Hitler and designed by Ferdinand Porsche - prior to his company. But did you know that the VW company did come into being until the british government had tried to sell the design of the beetle to several british companies after the war, but because they had no takers, they had the Army involved in establishing a company in germany to build them - this company was called Volkswagen. Just one more thing we can thank the Brits for.......

I got another one - did you know the Mk1 Golf is still being produced in South Africa? It has a Mk3 interior, updated engine and brakes!

There was one at VWAction last year, its called the Citi Golf, but unfortunalty only comes in 5 door. Could you imagine how popular it would be in 3 door!!

^ I did a thread on this a while back, it has some info on this web site. As Adam says, five doors only I'm afraid. :(

I wouldn't say it had mk3 interior. more like a updated polo dash really. It's a pitty VW don't make a sweet car like the mk1 now. turning to the heavy cars boasting all their safety features. ::)
you can hardly call it driving anymore
-
all about regulations...
the newer polo's are about the size of older golfs now aren't they?
so they had to bring the lupo out i guess... ?
-
you can hardly call it driving anymore
lmao
what should we call it? Cruising in our padded cell? ;) :D
-
That's a "Padded Cell GTI" thankyou very much :P
-
PR people would call it, arm chair driving.. home comfort cruising?
-
ahem... as a professional Pr consultant I would have to say...
"a unique automotive experience honed by a 30 year pedigree of brand experience at the cutting edge of the motor industry offering the ultimate in comfort and security and the ultimate driving sensation for the next generation of golf drivers" :o :-X
writing press releases for a living gives you a built in bullsh!t ability.... :D

My mk 3 Gti is big and heavy but I wouldnt change it for the world I feel safest in a mk 3 than most cars new and old.
My fella works for VW and has done for 11 yrs and he says Mk 3 Golfs are the best Golf VW have ever made better quality and reliability (mk4's are the worst as they have the most recorded problems).
I must say Mk1's are the best looking golfs ever made :P
-
I think my mk1 is quite bulky, hence being called "the tank",so i hate to drive a mk3 if they were heavier! :P
I also think the mk1 is the best lookin! ;D Cars r gettin too curvy! :-\
Dinky :-*
