where can i get a modified headgasket preferably a vw specialist not just ur usual car spares shop, as a bloke who specialises in vw's told me that the headgasket was modified on the 1.3 engines as they commonly leaked oil from above the alternator where this is happening on mine

Try your local VW dealer part desk.

I got my 16v headgasket from VW and it was only a tenner and it looks very good quality.

where i went he does all the work himself (as he is doing a VR6 converion on a mk2 golf) and told me it will cost about £200 parts and labour plus skimming or £80 labour and skimming and i buy the parts. he also offered me some coil overs for £100

let me know how you get on with this as I've got oil p!ssing out of somewhere around there on mine, I was suspecting the head gasket but hoping it wasn't.

has it been like it for a while, and getting every now and then the white cream on the oil cap but not losing water don't worry about iy too much as its generally condensation
-
I'm not too worried about it as there is no oil in the coolant and no water in the oil and it runs sweet as a nut. I've just been getting a bit of grief at work about the oil slick I'm leaving in the car park. I'll whip the head off in the spring when I'm not as dependant on it every day.

i went to VW and its £21.55 inc vat for the gasket so i think i weill let him get the parts

I don't get how the £21.55 means its better to let him charge you £120 for parts?? With ALL manifold gaskets, head bolts, a new cambelt, tensioner etc. etc. its only cost something like £60 total.

I work for a VAG specialist.. and I bought everything OE.. Elring for gaskets, OE supplier.. Headbolts from Febi, OE supplier, etc etc..
Yes its very common to get the oil leaking from there on a 1300.. if you look at the gasket you can see theres only a thin seal and thats where the main oil gallery is, thus where the pressure is.. there arent any modified ones against that.. theres jsut the 1272cc gasket end of.

i went to get my headgasket job on my mk2 golf priced up and the bloke said to change the oil pressure switch before i consider having the headgasket done. if u have got oil on top of the inlet manifold betwwen cylinder 1 and 2 change the oil pressure switch as these are a common problem for oil leaks and make sure u get right colour switch as there are 4 different ones with different pressures which mine was black , so hope this has stopped mine and saved me a bit of money
