Please tell me South Africa will be getting this vehicle?
If so... Its time to twist my dad into getting one

What everyone really wants to know, is when are we getting a hot one?
I mean why have they opted for the 200ps version of the 2.0L lump when they are now making more than the 1500 limited 230PS ED 30 variants?
Surely the door is open for something hotter, but in 2.0L TFSI output, maybe the S3 lump badged R or GTI, with the S3 260PS, or more than likely 250PS?
I'm waiting still, but on first look, its deffo what I would swap my ED30 for in 09, but I'd like something a littler warmer!

They say no at this point,
But if it sells well i can see them putting in a bigger bhp engine
So probably something like a 2.0 230/250 bhp or maybe even a 3.2/3.6 300 bhp.
But its guess work, and as i say at the moment there are no plans to do this.

From what I've heard, a 3.2/3.6 variant will be available a good 6/12 months after the car is released. So maybe it will advisable for people to wait if they aren't happy with a 200 bhp engine...

....Beyond what vw_sales has told us, it's all speculation!
If I was about to buy a 3-door GTI/Ed30 (is the Ed30 available as 3-dr??), I would wait for the Scirocco - It's really a GTI Coupe and always has been. But I need the 5-door all-rounder - My teenage daughter was so right in persuading me!!
The interior is more or less the same as the latest Eos (I went in one the other day - Black with maroon leather and very smart indeed).

Vw sales. . . . im using a cell phone. Please excuse my spelling. So is that a no for south africa? Might have misread your post. This car seems to be getting a lot of attention and excitement. I figure this car will create a big change for vw. Anyone agree with me?
-
i dont know about south africa and from the uk there is no way to check.
And robin is right, it makes no differance what people are told are are hearing.
According to VW there will be no bigger engine options.
So the rest is guesswork.

£20,500? So 2 grand cheaper than a DSG Golf GTI?
I realise thats just a preliminary, but could certainly put a cat amongst the pigeons
-
Scirocco with DSG £21,800 est
Golf GTI DSG £22,145
No pigeons included.
-
No mate the £ 20,500 will be the manual smallest petrol engine.
so the 1.4 tsi engine.
The dsg will be approx £ 1300 more.
so £ 21800 1.4 tsi 160 bhp dsg.
or £ 22145 for 2.0 gti dsg.
£ 345 pounds differance.
-
So that goes against what you said in your first post of how the 200bhp will start at 20,500?
-
I'm still struggling to see where this car fits. It's to similar to be a different option to a 3dr Golf and its not a performance/prestige model as it certainly isn't going to be quicker than a GTI/R32.
VW should of gone the whole hog and decided one way or the other what this car was meant to be, by either making it an affordable coupe (and not styled it like a hatchback) or made it a performance model.
VW, I am confused

....I see your point but with the same GTI 2.0T FSI engine isn't it going to be at least as fast as the Mk5 GTI?
It would appear to 'split' or compete with the 3-door GTI market though. It even has foldable rear seats!
-
Slightly cheaper, slightly quicker, more 'unusual'?
-
wonder where they lost 10bhp from the 1.4 tsi to make it only 160.. must be used up to power the blowdryer and straightener attachments :lipsrsealed:
-
so it does copy and paste from vw
Should have read it properly.
My bad.

What happened to the IROC style q's- suspect NCAP meant that grill had to go :-( Torn on this one - was expecting something a bit special not this - I cannot see this competing with the TT (or put it this way I can't see a MK2 TT owner chopin in for one of these and thats the market they should be going at, plus BMW Z4, Porsche Cayman - not Hyundai), for me this is a poors mans alternative - well it's not even a coupe its a hatch back (it even has a wiper on ther rear window!). I just hope for the later model releases they lump in a higher PSI engine, quattro and some aggressive styling. If this is the new look and feel of VW, how different will this be to the MK6 Golf, apart from shorter and not available in 5DR! Does anyone in VW have any balls to try and compete with Audi (there must be an element of sibling rivalry)
Saying that I would love to test drive one (not the 1.4!) and see it in the flesh before commenting further - as I could totally change my mind  but at the moment my money is sat firmly on a TTS
-
If the styling is aggressive enough, and it drives as well as the Mk5 GTI, it might be worth a look.
I'm still a bit dubious about the hairdresser-type connotations (as with the old TT).
-
I like it and could be tempted but I will be waiting to see one on the flesh first - always hard to judge from a pic. Needs to have the big wheels too otherwise they will look lost.
-
will the one with the 2.0 FSI Turbo engine, i.e the GTI engine be called a Scirocco GTI?
as for more powerful engines they can't really put a V6 in there or anything over 230PS without making it four wheel drive which would then make it a cheaper and faster Audi TT so would be a conflict of interests.

there is no way they want this car to compete with premium product like TT, that is one of the reasons not to put 3.2 in Scirocco!
What do you mean - balls???? This is VAG, not VW against Audi! They have brains, you know.
-
If I needed a 5-door: Scirocco does not fit, I'd take E30 5-door (or GTI 5-door)
If I needed a fast coupe: I'd look at TT 2.0TFSI quattro (I've read somewhere they are going to offer that combination).
If I needed a fast hatch: I'd take E30 (which I did)
Scirocco does not fit anywhere. :lipsrsealed:
P.S. If I wanted something really fast, I'd opt for Audi TTS! It's expensive like helll but with Ottinger stage 2 repam it's in TT-RS territory for less money!
TTS - my favourite at the moment.
Nissan GT-R - my dream car.
-
....But lots of people (not enthusiasts like us) don't even know that VW and Audi are part of the same company/organisation/group.
VAG are intelligent enough to realise that people buy a car for often very irrational reasons. I know someone who bought a Mk5 GTI only because they liked the front grill style. They found it too fast and too thirsty and now have a Golf Mk5 2.0 TDI.

I am in great touch with both my feminine sides! 1) been brought up by my mum, so I have yin/yang sorted. 2)my GF.
Proof: I LOVE TTS! From the back it has nice hips. My GF bent over to pick something, and I was behind her. I swear, looking at her I was reminded of TTS.

thanks, but I'd like it in green, like in new Jaguar XKR-S! :nerd:

Both VW and Audi (and Seat, Skoda oh and Lamborghini ) operate as separate legal entities - they all have to generate and pay revenue into VAG so why can't they steal market share from their sisters? Audi is definately seen as the all round premier brand of the VAG group - this was not the case 15-20 years ago (I know things change). Do you not think VW have aspirations of being the premium brand and not the mass market supplier (why bother with the Phaeton?). All I'm saying is Audi have free design range (look at the R8) and so can VW - the MK1 TT was something totally different, this was not born out of intelligence of the market place and a potential consumer target, a set of designers were allowed to create what they wanted and prove it was feasible to manufacture and sell - IMHO I think it was the TT MK1 that changed peoples opinion of Audi and they have gone from strength to strength (also the Audi Quattro should also be recognised for this). VW have access to the same parts bins, the same technologies and the same potential customers and I would hope ambitious designers and Engineers - why not create a TT beating coupe?

because the board of directors of VAG says NO.

DeSilva designed the IROC grill. The new VW boss said no as it distracted from the VW "vfm"- mainstream look and moved VW onto the Audi reservation :undecided:

Here's some more info i found on vortex, seems quite thorough and from an official vw press release. It also mentions that vw will only be offering charged scirrocos, so that would mean no v6 version.

i was just about to order a GTI, I'm now going to wait too see the Scirocco reviews and have a look at one in the flesh.will have to upgrade misses motor to a 5 door though because we have a baby, and just use Scirocco as my toy.probably not sensible but i like the look of the Scirocco, looks a bit like a squashed golf

Quite correct - protecting each individual manufacturers interests/market share and the overall VAG brand :smug:

Hi Red Robin,
Mine is a 3-door ED30. You should remember this as you keyed both sides before I picked it up.
Is your memory failing you fella????
