Ok im going for a 90's look this year, big wheels, big drop
What i wold like to find out if anyone has any pictures of 90 look cars pref from the 90's. I used to know a site which showed every event/shows from way back does anyone have it??
16's or 17's on a mk2.....
before anyone starts slatting me i've been modding golfs since i was 17, i've pretty much done every look you can think of, i wanna stand out from the croud this year...
bring on the abuse!!!!
-
I'll be the first to saw big wheels/small car - only 17 year old boys with bum fluff faces driving their mother's corsas like that look.
-
Il disagree there, used to be quite a few mk2's around on 17's in mid nineties, then things moved on but according to the gays that be its making a comeback, case in point that MK2 with the Mini dash on 17" Schmidts that was in PVW month or so ago. i liked it
-
kittie, can you rephrase that please?? didnt quite get that?
im not on about big wheels making a come back etc etc i like em and couldnt give a tosh what people thought about my car... i'd love to piss off all the annoraks
i just want PICS
rj: yea that red one was the dogs
-
I've been offered this and think it looks sh!t hot, with the exception of the exhaust and positive camber on the front!

There is a fair bit of adjustment that can be made, plus the fact it has (what i assume to be) 17" wheels would make any camber look slightly exaggerated wouldn't it?
-
ohh my!!!
thanks for the pics mate, anymore?

seen as i was modding all through the 90's, its a look i love
the cars in this thread look better than most do today!!!!, too many modded mk 2's etc look the same these days and its getting very boring..
i personally like the OE + look or the 90's look as its been names here, cant beat a set of big rims and big drop

game on.. thats exsactly my thoughts... once i got a bit of money (once the car stops chewing it up on twittish faults) i will have my big bumpers on and will drop it some more. i think 17`s on a mk2 look the nutz.. specially white rims on a black car!!! just like that 1 down there \/ \ / \/ \/ \/ \/ \/
-
i was gonna say you have a slight 90's look going on
but yeah, its a great look as i said before i personally love it

hey!!! i have 17's on my vr!

my other mk2 scrubed like hell on 17,s ant want half as low as some

oh yeh id did look pritty loooooooowwwwwwww.front tyres lasted a day till i rubbed through the sidewall lol
-
hey!!! i have 17's on my vr!
and I have 20's on my murcielargo but what does it have to do with mk2's?
-
I was actually around (and modding cars) in the early 90's and as far as I can remember 15's were the predominant wheel size. My mate got some TSW blades in 16" in 95 and that was well outside the norm. If I remember correctly 17's didn't become popular until about 97-98 onwards. So really the 90's look would be 15's on a mk1. Don't forget in the early 90's most mk2's would still be fairly pricey and out of reach of most modders.
-
Thats still 11 years ago!!! i was still in school, telling all my mates that im gonna get a mk1 golf, while others ponderd over scoobys hehe enough of that tho...
i remember my brothers mate putting 17" momo arrows on his punto gt back in 97 man he was the dogs!!
I had 17's on my mk2 last summer for a day or two, i couldnt get on the rollers with my 14's on so had to borrow these off a mate.(couldnt be botherd adjusting the coils) Ok the style of the wheel is lets say err crap but i kinda liked it!! Plus it showed of my coilovers, discs and goodrich hoses!! hehe
(http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a43/lowmk1/STA71087.jpg)
Even the guy who dyno'd it said how pleased he was with the way it looked!!
-
that look will come back, it look great until the big body kit thing came on! but if your car is subtle with big wheels and very low it just looks phat
-
for the authentic 90's look you need some TSW Venoms.
-
look below...
-
i can remember when 16's were considered huuge! i had some 16 inch tsw hockenheims on my first golf years ago and i thought i was the bomb!
my last mk2 on chav 17's. was going to paint them satin black but removed them after a week!

dude you are absolutly bang on here, i was gonna metion this too.... in the early 90's, upto 96-97 at least it was 15"s that were all the rage, i had the (at the time) must have TSW Blades on my swift GTI  then switched to 17's in late 96..
-

cheers dude. team neun und neunzig racing are thinking of a change of looks. torn between putting it back to stock, dessert camo or arctic camo.
-
out of interest, do people take you serious driving round in the camo car??
that is one mad looking car man
-
the most common response is why. the most common answer is why not! its a bit of a laugh to be honest and i dont care if i am taken seriously or not. its a bit of an anti scene statement i guess. it was like that when i bought it. they usually take it seriously when they have to back off through the twisty bits in their shiney imprezas!

well thats cool in my view... going against the grain, something im a big fan of actually
i dont know about imprezas having to back off on twisty roads tho, totally not having a go or anything but i can say as a driver/owner of both mk 2 16v golf and imprezza turbo, the impreza's are outstanding on the bends, a hell of a lot better than the golf or infact any golf iv driven....impreza's and evos can make any driver go round bends like some kind of rally champion hahaha
i appreciate many people wont like to read that but its the truth, those jap machines really are complete in that sense at least...(and im a huge fan of anything jap anyhow)
just my opinion tho.
but yeah respect for been different
-
i appreciate many people wont like to read that but its the truth
No it's not - a car's only as fast as the driver wants to go.
A standard Impreza Turbo on tired tyres (easy to get in an Impreza) with a small-balled driver who doesn't know the car, or is afraid of his insurance broker might well not want to keep up with a thoroughly breathed-on Golf, that's got the handling sorted and a confident driver.
Plenty of wannabees in Imprezas who can't drive for toffee, as countless hedges around the UK will testify.

well if the golf driver is driving like a twit maybe he wouldnt wanna race him (i know i wouldnt) or waste his fuel maybe, i dunno, but i know a imprezza turbo handles alot better than any mk 2...which is the point im trying to get accross, not been funny when i say it either its just how it is...
-
did cadwell in the wet in december and we were lapping the same times as a couple of standard imprezas. they were much faster on the straights but we caught them up and were held up on the bends.
a breathed on one chewed us up and spat us out in the dry! dry day at cadwell we were passed bu an e36 m3 down the straight and we were on him by the next corner and he let us past him!
my mate has had a couple of imprezas and i can testify that as soon as you grip the steering wheel you do turn into colin mcrae. its a fact

didnt really think this was just about mk2's?? its on the 90's look of big wheels and slam :undecided:
-
Hey i little off topic here....but just my 1penny's worth
lewis what engine have you got running it that??
Having driven many of scoobys, skylines, type rs etc etc as its my job!!! you must be running silly power to keep up with a turbo
I love jap cars, you can get s much more for your money!
-
you must be running silly power to keep up with a turbo
No you don't, you just need to be running a fit engine, well set up suspension and considerably less weight than the Japanese cars - that's got stripped-out Golf2 written all over it. People would do well to remember more isn't always better, it's just more. The Caterham Seven is a perfect example of this.
i know a imprezza turbo handles alot better than any mk 2
Rubbish. Maybe you've not spent enough time setting up your Golf yet. Imprezas handle well (and astonishingly well with four-wheel alignment), but not necessarily out of the box. You really need to consider how much extra power people are putting through the Golf2 chassis and also that the Golf2 can be had with 4WD. I've caught a number of Impreza drivers with their pants down with my Syncro and am really looking forward to doing more of it when I get my new engine in in the next couple of weeks.
-
how about some late 80's styling instead..
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Golf-mk2-full-kamei-x1-bodykit-G60-reg_W0QQitemZ180220406300QQihZ008QQcategoryZ9873QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
will probably be hated on here, but i think its rather cool (apart from the Len'ses obviously  )

was this a dealer fit option?
-
wow, so if i strip out my vw golf i can keep up/beat a subaru imprezza sweeettt!!!
not too sure bout the 80's styling but i did see a bbs? kitted mk2 in red last year which i thought looked quite differant..
anyone got anymore pics?
-
spoiler on that ebay golf looks sweet.
it'll take more than a strip out to keep up with an impreza! shouldnt be stealing your thread but i'llpm you the spec if you are interested.

theres plenty of golfs out there that will spank an impreza through the corners
http://www.howfast.com/event_results.asp?EventNo=3
shows what a properly sorted golf is capable of!

Awesome, 3 MKII's and a MKI in the top 20 against some VERY exotic tin.

hehe anyway can we get back on the subject, im not arsed what can beat an impreza, and that you can spend all your hard earned wages to modify an old golf to keep up with one.. The other day i went out in my boss's 599 GT with LC, its stupidly fast in a straight line and in the corners.. oh wait...que the person to tell me differant
90's look cars please!!
