originally bought from Motorprovider - car's been faultless but two years is coming up... Warranty Direct Luxury Care looks good - but not the cheapest at around £ 300. Don't want to be shelling out if things happen with the DSG etc...
Any advice appreciated.

Do you know how much it is to extend the warranty with VW?
The Service Manager couldn't give me an exact price when I was in but he thought around £200-300.
-
£420 ish for upto 15k miles
£460 ish for unlimited miles
-
ish
I love that word not,
Tell me what car you have i'll give you an exact figure.
-
05 plate Golf GTi DSG.
Will probably do about 12000 miles per annum. Its up for renewal around July time.
Thanks
-
there is just one price and thats £ 417.00 for up to 100,000 miles.
They dont list one for diffeant milages.
-
Well thats a lot more than he was leading me to believe!! I was telling him that BMW had wanted about £650 to extend the warranty on my coupe last year and he said it was nowhere near and about £200 - £300.
Now I'm not sure what I'll do as I would still take out the VW Warranty at that price if i had no alternative, but as I bought the car from a Volvo main dealer they've given me a 12 month used car warranty, so when the VW one expires I'll still have the remainder of their warranty on it.
£417 is a lot to spend to double up on a warranty. I guess I'll see how rich and how many times I've been to the VW dealers with faults at renewal time.
Many Thanks for your efforts VW_sales.

are other warranties any better or worse than VW's has anyone looked into it in detail?..£417 for ONE year...thats some insurance policy, admittedly worth if something big goes..
-
Well I'd hope VW's is the most comprehensive.
The problem with most independent warranties is they wont pay main dealer labour rates. So if any faults occur you have to source your own non-VW garage to do the work. Wouldn't like to entrust, a faulty DSG system for example, with anyone but VW, would you?

Some are as good, some are not, but you have to make the decsion yourself, look into it carefully.
Find out exactly whats covered, more important find out whats not, read all the small print, and get everything in writing.

The small prints a definite... A friend of mine recently purchased a car from a well known national Car Supermarket chain.
The warranty provided states that if your car doesn't come with FSH you must service it within 6000 miles after buying the car. But if it does have FSH then you can stick with the manufacturers service intervals.
Turns out that a fully stamped main dealer service book doesn't count as FSH, you actually need to produce every VAT invoice for every service. So the car was sold to her as having FSH because of the book (they didn't pass on any invoices), but the warranty company which turns out to be a wholly owned subsidiary of said car supermarket only count FSH if she has all the invoices.
Loads of people are being stung by it at the moment so be careful.

I used Warranty Direct for my previous Boxster and can only speak good of them. I had main dealer rate cover and the monthly cost was way below the £750 OPC cost for an annual warranty. Granted there was a £5k limit on claims so if the engine went, I'd have had to fork out the difference  My car had a FSH with the supplying dealer and although I had copies of all service invoices, I never had to produce them as the supplying dealer confirmed all the work. My claims with Warranty Direct were dealt with immediately and without question

A letter from VW says differently.....(http://img3.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/ed82dc1943.jpg)

maybe its cause your letter is eight months old.
Either way,
The guy wants a warranty for 12k miles per year
so whats the cost of that, according to your letter.
£ 422 pounds, which is £ 5 pounds more than i said it was.
Did it take you all afternoon to find the letter and scan it in, mate you need a hobby.
-
You try and help someone out.
Nice attitude by the way, is it VW sales or VW customer service you work in, seems to be a general attitude problem in both departments....
Sorry would of loved to have replied earlier but some of have work to do, rather than sitting on a forum all day.
-
Appology accepted.
-
Well I appreciate both your efforts, I now feel reliably informed.
Thanks guys

I am wondering about extended warranty myself but the issue of modified or not and VW playing up if they think the modification has caused the problem...
At the end of the day its only the electronics I am bothered about and maybe the DSG - e.g. Air Con packs up again which is quite common and thats a hefty bill.
-
VW Dont play that game mate.
If you have for instance a remap and the drivers window regulator fails, its still covered.
-
Shame they dont do just an electrical warranty at a cheaper rate
Surely if you had a remap and the DSG played up they would blame the fault on that - how would you prove otherwise....

I have a 4th year warranty with no mileage limitation, paid for by my VW dealer (eventually) after lots of problems when my car was new in June 2005. It cost £235 (presumably the dealer price) and is provided by TWG Services. I have no idea if it will be any good as my car isn't 3 years old until June, but I will be straight back to the dealer if required!
The exclusions on the policy are all the normal wear and tear ones.
