throttle cable is not sticking, when the engine is reving high the throttle is closed and cable is slack,im thinking it might need an isv,all the ones on ebay dont fit mine

Post in the "Parts wanted" threads.

Also look in the for sale threads.

And in the Cars Breaking. Never know your luck.

I would also get it attached to vag-com and see if any codes come up.... remember read the codes, erase, run for a few days and read again.. several people on here have this installed on a lap top and may beable to help or buy a cable from ebay and download the software

ive bought a cable and cd so we will see what it says when it gets here from hong kong,a new isv non vw is £180,a guy at the renault garage thinks it sounds like throttle body issue.the revs are all over the place when the butterfly valve is closed.so there must be the wrong information going to the ecu which effects the revs.

or its sucking in air?

ISV should buzz yeah. have a check of the switch that the throttle cable stops on, spray some WD40 in there and snap the throttle shut a few times on it to make sure it's not sticking open. If it doesn't close the ISV won't monitor air on idle

Says he replaced the vac pipes up there oggy. Gareth did you replace all three 3mm id vac hoses?

i replaced all 3 pipes, ive gone round all air pipes theres no leaks.if you engine brake it will idle at 1100rpm,when reved it sits at 1500rpm,when i stall the car just enough it will drop to1100rpm.the throttle snaps shut right up to the stop on body,i can rev it by hand, and have checked that,im at a loss, the haynes manual say things like cam belt not tensioned right.

Can't imagine it would be a timing issue  or anything related to that. Vag Com is your best bet. Sounds like a cream crackered valve in the ISV. Apart from through inlet manifold gaskets there's no other way in for unmetered air now you've checked everything else

theres no noise at all coming from the isv,if its supposed to buzz,it does not,i have posted on parts needed for one,so will have to see what happens there if not £180 it is then .would vag-com show up a fault with the isv

If it was a wiring fault to it then yes, worth checking first..

ok, i finaly got round to sorting out my vagcom and it tells me there are no faults with the car,so the question is if the isv is not working would this have shown up a fault, any body got a isv they want to sell (abf engine)

Before you spend that £180...when you cleaned your throttle body, how did you clean it, did you remove it..? may need resetting, to do this open the bonnet, put the key in the ignition and turn it until all the lights come on but don't start the car and also leave the driverside door open aswell, leave for about 3 mins (5 just to be sure) and if the throttle body is outta sink it will reajust its self.

Don't know if this works on valvers as i never had to do this on mine but it woks on vr's so worth a try and it don't cost nowt...let us know what happens.

took the battery off for 1 hour then had the ignition on for 15 mins.no change to the revs problem.i pulled the pipe off the airbox from the isv and its stucking very loudly, when you squeeze the pipe the revs do drop, there is no buzzing from isv with the ignition on.bloody thing :angry:why are isv;s for 8v and vr6 20quid and 16v 180quid
