1.8 gti 8v cams and 8v exhaust manifold should see you right with minimal cost just make sure you get it set up right though

bit of a hijack but related, i always use tipex or something and put my own marks on the cam and crank pulleys as well as the timing marks...
if you take a cam off the pulley and put a new one ie performance one... does the cam only fit oneway onto the pulley? if not you could be all over the place?!
only ask as im thinking about camming my engine up.

i think high lift ones for an 8v gti would be too much and probably quite expensive, the standard gti cam will be plentiful and if you get the exhaust manifold aswell and it will make a noticable difference with minimal cost

Yea, only goes on one way. On the pully, you'll notice a notch and on the cam, there's place for a woodruff key - A Woodruff key or half-moon key, is a semicircular shaped, removable key that fits into a matching keyway cut into a shaft, leaving a protruding tab. The tab mates with a matching slot on a device mounted flush upon the shaft e.g. a pulley.
That way you can't get your "alignment" incorrect. :) Hope that helps.

*cough* I've got a gti cam for sale ;) PM me if you're interested - I've got pics.
Was going to put it on my 1.8 Driver but decided I'm going to go all concourse standard on the car :)

I bought a Techtonics 268 cam which is a little bit more aggressive than a GTI cam. I'll be fitting it in the next couple of days.
It was $130 plus $90 shipping (OUCH!). Even so $220 for a cam is better than £220+ for the equivalent Kent cam. If a couple of people ordered them at the same time you could save even more as I suspect $90 shipping would cover more than one cam.
