Ok just to let you know, ive pulled out of the cheap 05 black GTi today, decided that 45000 on the clock is too much and an MOT is not what ive had to contend with for quite some years, so ive bagged myself what i think is a bargain last minute deal(last day of the month) at Peter Cooper Southampton VW dealers.
They have a 2007 5 door GTi in steel grey metalic.Lovelly DSG, full leather,Dvd sat nav,6 disc with armrest,18" monza II's.Multifunction steering wheel with flappy paddles, parking sensors, winter Pack and with get this......... 960 miles on the clock!!!!!!!!.The car was owned by Mrs Peter Cooper.Cars been sat in her drive for months as shes now in Majorca) all for £21k!!!, origonally up for £24995. traded the Passat for £18500, and payed today £3500 in total. Words cant discribe,am well excited. Picking her up nxt week once private plates have been assigned.
can anyone direct me to some Steel Grey photo's plz on the net. cheers my lovellys

Spot on Phil. Very good deal there. Post some pics next week. :smug:
And a good selection of toys fitted too.
Whats the Mrs say???????
-
She gave up from me consistantly going on about it but shes happy aswell, i nearly brought privately a candy white one, same spec but had xenons but no centre arm rest, and was an import for £20795 but pulled out after finding out Centre armrest to retro fit was nearly £700 to fit, and it was listed on Vw's database at all, so couldnt check its history.
-
that sounds like a cracking deal... the best spec! no probs come resale time!
-
cus its only done less then a 1000 miles, whats the correct running in??? is it upto the 1st 1000 miles or more??? do's and dont would be helpfull guys..
-
Lovely colour  my last car was steel grey and I would have had the same again, but felt like a change.
All I can give for running in advice is take it steady for the first few miles when you drive off the forecourt.....and then take it for a good thrashing
It has already done 960 miles and so is basically run in anyway
-
on the subject of running in, must be frustrating for you after you have just picked it up.
When i bought my first car, the guy who owned it used it as a run about till his subaru was ready. The dealer had set a limiter at 4000rpm for the first 1000 miles so he couldnt go over that.
-
Well i know for a fact the Car was owned by the wife of Peter Cooper himself. He owns a toureg V10 and its purely her car, means it hasnt been DRIVEN in anger yet!.
Its weird how things go because its got the same Reg plate on it as my 1st GTi had VW05 WOW, and now my 2nd car has the same reg plate from Mrs Cooper again!!
And to add to that, shes just registured for a 3rd year another new car, and yes its another Golf GTi, in steel grey. that must mean ill be buying that car in a year when she trades that in aswell!!!
Ive been offered lifeshine for £199, is it worth it, anyone had it done or shall i just go to halfords and buy the case of products and do it myself???
-
Buy the products yourself and don't let any oily rag from the dealer wash it!
Vorsprung two bucket technique

I made that mistake and got AutoGlym lifeshine free from the dealer. They must have put a blind idiot with a brillo pad to apply the Lifeshine because its got microscratches all over    DIY is best. By the way, you've got an excellent deal there Phil and welcome back to civilisation

I have to say STEER well clear of the shine....sure its shiney, but get some maguires or autoglym yourself, seriously. Now this will make you laugh...a friend of mine, who works in a garage told me that it costs them wholesale about £10 plus labour....they then put the pimpliest faced tea making no-mark on it..., howver one time it back fired on them, cos the pimply faced no-mark used wait for it.....WIRE WOOL on the bonnet of a new car Lol!!
Needless to say the spotty faced callow youth was duely despatched ..I am sure that in most cases you are not getting a good product used by someone who is intent on detailing our car...you are getting a good product used by someone who is more interested in beer, burds and a night out with his mates than protecting your car....beware...and take some time to do it yourself...its worth it seriously and it allows you to get u close and personal with your new car...without wanting to sound all Garry Glitter about it.
Far better to take your Mrs/ Partner away for a night in a nice hotel having first arrived in the new car...a good excuse if you ask me for testing the car, showing it off and kidding the Mrs on that you care more about HER than the car...tee hee.

yes we are going to Hollywell bay in Cornwall in april for a 5 night cheap holiday in a Posh caravan (if there is such a thing!). spent all the funds on the GTI so important things come 1st!!!!!!!. Last time i was down in that part of the country, they dont have traffic lights believe it or not, just roundabouts, great for mpg, and so good roads down there especially over exmoor etc for stretching ones legs...opps i mean the cars legs! lol

I did it myself with my 1st Ed30 last March and the results were excellent - no swirl marks but a clear glossly shine, unlike the dealer job I got on my 2nd Ed30  The Lifeshine pack cost me £15 on ebay and was EXACTLY the same one as used by the dealers.
-
ok well dealer called me and offered the car to me to have a weekend with it so i can see what i think needs doing, Car has done 1253 miles,a tad more then i was informed but not bothered. She's abit dirty but was great to get behind the wheel again. The car is going back tommorow so i can let them know what i want doing to it b4 signing on the dotted line.(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s264/philmcavity/GTi2009.jpg)(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s264/philmcavity/GTi2004.jpg)
