Title: re- redrobin
Post by: sunnylunn on 29 February 2008, 14:58
hello red, could you tell me where you got your very excellent carbon vw badge from. i've just ordered a carbon grille and think the badge would add the finishing touch. not sure it will look as good on my reflex silver as it does on your red! tried to follow a link you posted on another forum but it was a dead link. cheer. Martin.

Well yes, a Bluefinned Ed30 would have the edge. A standard Ed30 might not catch me though

I got it from www.oempl.us in America - Took forever and was expensive but no regrets. Phone Dave at the TTshop 01234 853 225 - He's trying to get European distribution.

Not as insane as buying a bonnet, wing mirrors and rear lower spoiler in silver CF with one piece that may not even fit
Title: Re: re- redrobin

i shouldn't start looking at bling after i've had red wine- it is insane for a piece of carbon, but you know you want one! the weight saving should help with acceleration on this performance day we might be getting  if any body wants one (you know you do) there's 2 left, just follow reds link.

....Not insane but merely obsessed!

You can apply that 'insane' logic to anything. £400 for a handbag!? £25,000 for a car!? £50 for a kitchen knife!? (I've just spent that on a Santoku Fluted Blade knife designed by Porsche and it's soooo well ergonomically designed and made.

Hurdy - I saw my first silver Ed30 today - Came through town in bright sunlight and looked seriously excellent! Those silvery grey alloys are perfect. I can see that silver carbonfibre will look exceptional!!     - Five Star Cool!

I think you are missing the point, its just a badge, at least a £50 kitchen knife is useful, but a carbon fibre badge seems like a waste of money.

....Clearly a waste of your money, but it's not your money I'm spending.

You could argue that I'm wasting £50 on a kitchen knife - I already have a perfectly adequate kitchen knife (although it isn't fluted) but I don't need flutes, it's just a luxury!

I obviously don't have to justify my spending to you but.....As I already have "wasted" my money on a carbonfibre mask, it suits the aesthetics of the front better to also match it with a CF VW badge. I have also already "wasted" money on performance mods as well as cosmetic. Are you someone who thinks that anything cosmetic is a waste of money? Are you an accountant? - Actually even my accountant doesn't think like you! He's the sort of guy who has taken me to Geneva just for lunch! What a waste of money!

You dont have to get personal, and no im not an accountant, far from it, also I wasn't talking to you (Red) in the first place anyway, I was talking to the original poster sunnylunn.

performance mods are great, thats my point, use the money for stuff that makes the car go better, not make it look like its owned by a chav.

Title: Re: re- redrobin
Post by: sunnylunn on 01 March 2008, 16:37
dont really think the addition of a carbonfibre badge would mean i was a chav, its down to personel choice. one mans meat is anothers mutton and all that (does that sound chavvy) next time i want to buy something for my car i'll ask if its chav or not.

....Sorry but it wasn't clear who you were talking to (or I missed it! Sorry). I thought you were getting a little personal but let's just put it down to my misunderstanding.

I have certainly spent significant money on performance mods and have subsequently done some cosmetic mods. I appreciate that not everyone likes carbonfibre but most chavs actually can't afford it and I do think that I've done mine very tastefully, but then I would think that wouldn't I?

Excuse my ignorance .. you blighty blokes have so much lingo .. wot?

But coming from the colonies .. I have looked up chav .. however it is a little confusing .. are you referring to perhaps a male version of Vicki Pollard of Little Britain? Or perhaps someone like Ali G .. or have I completely ^*%*ed up the meaning?

I didn't know that! Not that I've ever used mine (even in fog - no need with xenons!), but good to know just in case!

I tried to take mine off at weekend as I have a black one on the way, but couldn't wrestle it off without possibly breaking something! Looks like I may have to remove the grill, so annoying!!

Fog lights are designed so that in case of FOGGY weather they will make the front/rear of the car more noticeable to oncoming or approaching cars and for that reason they dazzle oncoming cars when they are used in clear conditions..

In my oppinion all that driving around with your fog lights on during the day or night when they should be turned off is alert other drivers to a (potential) prick driving around thinking he looks cool..

Oh and its bought..

alright no need to get Emotional!! u seem like your about to cry over me driving with my fogs on. also why are you insulting me by calling me a prick when you dont know me. you come onto a forum.....post 14times and insult people you dont know.

i have driven behind people (friends) and towards them as they are driving just to test how bright they are and if they are dangerous to other drivers, which they are not. if they were even remotly dangerous or off putting to other drivers then i would not use them.

There is a reason why its illegal thats all im saying, but I do find it very annoying when people drive with there fogs on..

Do your friends drive with their fog lights on?

Me having posted 14 times makes no difference to how I feel about  the issue..

Sorry that you were offended by my comment..

....Now then, girls!!

Fogs on/off in clear unfoggy/misty conditions always starts people kicking off - It's an emotive subject.

Personally I'm not that fussed about the image - It's not just very young drivers but also middle class BMW and 4WD drivers who do it. I don't think that modern fogs are dazzling any more than dipped headlights. The law dates back to when the only fogs on cars were those huge burners which were added and not standard on cars. England is far too slow to update its laws - It's still totally legal to take a King Charles Spaniel wherever you want, dating back to King Charles' time!

There is often sea mist and fog on the hills in my neck of the woods and so I'm glad the GTI has fogs. Also they are very useful driving into my tight garage at night!

 Nope, never! My other half has this habit too, she has a RAV4 and the fogs are massive!! They actually increase visibility at night, especially when driving down unlit lanes. Wouldn't say they dazzle oncoming drivers either.

Or maybe they see someone coming towards them with their front fogs on and think there about to drive into foggy conditions.

There called foglights not "Cool Lights" for a reason.

....I was referring to the countless times I've followed a car out of the fog/mist into clear conditions in a valley and they have left on their rear fog - That's dumb! I don't put on any fogs until I see the poor visibility conditions just ahead.
Title: Re: re- redrobin

I know what you mean.

Then theres the people that think a little rain mean you need your rear fogs on as well. There also the ones that can usually be found sitting in the middle lanes of motorways overtaking noone. But thats another thread altogether ha ha

Get xenons next time then you dont need front fogs

As for being illegal, yes they are frowned upon by police if used inapproriately - 'illegal' is quite a strong word for it, not like you can get banged up for it like drink driving.

I have noticed recently though the new ford galaxy (if thats what they still call it) has a low powered type foglight on the front which is on with the headlight - well either that or every one I have seen so far thinks he's 17.

Post by: Phil mcavity on 04 March 2008, 08:17
yes i drive sometimes with just my front fogs on the Fronts, they dont glare, they DO NOT blind the poor bugger in front. I do not however put rear red lights on because that DOES dazzle and IS dangerous.Again driving down poorly lit lanes, youre normal lights dont pick up a pot hole aswell as the lower fogs lamps do. Ok i know im wrong, police dont seem to worry about it here, it is illegal in the Highway code b%llsh%t, but it in NO WAY cause anyone to crash as some people are making out to be. Sorry just my opinion too.

Thought i might leave it but cant, an no offence is meant but.

ITS ILLEGAL, Which means that the police can stop you and fine you, no grey area with the law my friend.

we know that vw sales, its the chance you take, same as other things people take chances on like, front tinted windows, re arranged reg plates, (they dont cause accidents same as having front fogs being on)blacked out light clusters(which ARE more dangerous).if the arm of the law arent busy, and they want an excuse to pull u over, then thats a way then can.

....In practice you are very unlikely to get 'pulled' for inappropriate fogs on, but if you are stopped for another reason it's not so unlikely that your illegal fogs issue gets included!

....Hmmm....I think I might start using my fogs as Daylight Running Lights - Not constantly but in the same road circumstances that dipped heads might be appropriate.

Did you know that Hella produce a round DRL lamp that fits instead of the fogs on the Mk5 Golf but doesn't fit the GTI !!!! How stupid is that!
