Title: Head Gasket Gone!!!!!
Post by: hothead_steve on 29 February 2008, 13:16
Thats right guys, my head gasket for my 1990 16v has given up on me!

I'm thinking its time to get a new car tbh but thought i'd ask for some advice before i started doing anything.

Would anyone be interested in buying my car with head gasket gone or do you think i'd get more selling it for spares? its got the half leather ralllye interior which i hear can fetch quite a bit, ronal turbo r10 alloys in reasonable condition, and a milltek exhaust.
am i best just pulling these off then scrapping the car? it has had accident damage in past so dont think i'd be able to get much for it.
I got quoted £600 for the head gasket with it being a valver.
Any advice here would be much appreciated.
cheers guys

Since this photo i've replaced the drivers front wing and fitted a new front bumper, indicators + grill, not had chance to paint yet but they are in a sort of black. Also had the car re-jigged to correct misalignment done during crash.

If you are handy with the old spanners then do it yourself, especially if you have a mate who's handy too and can pitch in with you. It's not really that hard it's the labour rate at the garage that's a killer. £600 does sound expensive too. Have a shop around.

I say keep it, looks well.

Head gasket on a valver ain't that bad once you strip it down it's just a bit fiddly. Day - 2 days work I would say :)
