Title: Min Service Expected from Remap Dealer
Post by: duffy78 on 29 February 2008, 12:25
Hi all,

am considering a stage 1 remap, like the sound of the Revo.

Had a look on their website and the nearest dealer to me is in darlington, however another member pointed out that this does not look like a decent place, he had a pop over to check it out. Seems to think that all the do is upload the software and thats it.

This has got me thinking, what is the minimum service you expect from these sort of people?

Im not to fussed about finding out the bhp gains so a rolling road isnt really at the top of my list, however i would expect them to take my car out on the road to test out the remap and maybe make any adjustments that are required.

A good dealer will normally either put the car on a rolling road or take it out for a test drive to ensure the set up is right. some also get readings off the boost to make sure the system is dealing with the new map okay. They can also tell if the car is tending to run lean with fuel/air.

get a bluefin, had mine for a few weeks now and am very happy with it. install yourself in 20 mins, give superchips a call, they couldn't be more helpful.

thanks for the heads up.

what is the tuning limit of a gti with a dsg gearbox? i've heard you have to limit the torque to a certain amount.

is this true?

300nM is what the guys on here have said previously.

Don't know where the guidance for that comes from but i'm sure someone will explain in more detail.

is that right?

i thought a stock gti runs at 275Nm?

bluefin puts this to 317 ?

maybe its lbft, this would sound more sensible.

I think you may be right on that. Apologies for the confusion.

been reading a bit more about bluefin, sounds right up my street,

does anyone know if someone has compared this to a revo map?

i did some homework before deciding on bluefin, the graphs that i have seen on this and other forums dont appear to differ too much, they cant really can they. its down to personel choice in the end, i thought bluefin would give me what i was after and it has plus some! you can just put the standard map back in when you have to take it for a service and swap it back to hyperdrive after. happy days.

Does Bluefin show you any fault codes in your car before you put the map on.obviously when you do a revo map they check your car for faults through there laptop before the map.

no it doesn't show them before, but once the new map is uploaded you can then access the fault code menu. you can also use it to immobilise your car if you are going to leave it for a while, even if some scumbag gets your keys, they wont be able to start it!

Only thing that put me off the Bluefin was that you get a "paired" set of maps. The standard and power maps are paired up to stop you from using it for anybodies car. This also has a downside - when you take the car to the dealers and they do an update on the ECU, it means that the maps become "non-paired" and so you cannot swap them over again. This in turn means linking back up with the Superchips site over the web every time this happens to pair them up again.
APR do their remaps separately as individual entities via the cruise control and so when you take it to the dealers, you simply swap back to the stock map and let the dealers do what they want with it and it doesn't affect the power map. :smug:

....Nope, it's 300 ft lb / 400 Nm recommended max for DSG. You can go for more but the more you push the envelope the more stresses there will be. Beware of tuners who offer more.

takes 20 mins to send the new map to superchips, not a problem in my opinion. i dont know why everyone seems to have a downer on bluefin, its one of a bunch of maps out there, i'm sure if we all looked hard enough they would all have a downside somewhere. the reason the maps are paired is to stop one person buying one and then selling it on for next to nothing, you cant really knock superchips from taking steps to stop that. i'm sure all of the other remaps are brilliant, i just liked the bluefin version and havn't been disapointed. if i buy another vw audi seat skoda, i can send my unit to superchips and have it reset for £350 and use it again on my new car, cheap remap

I don't really have a downer as such on the Bluefin (my last 4 cars had Superchips!). This time I just went for something that I thought was a little more practical.

My tuner is now an agent for both Bluefin and Revo but has a preference for Revo. It's not so much a question of the quality of each as a drive but the way the systems are designed as far as I can understand it.
