Getting new alloys next week so will try and get rid off my old crap alloys, i measured the diameter of the alloys and they are 15 inch i thought, but the tyres are 195/60/14 so whats going on? I really just dont understand this wheel malarky!!!
All advice welcome?

if the tyres are 14" then the wheels definately are,
14" tyres on 15" rims would b a tight fit
-
6x14 them alloys from your photobucket account

Thats Great, cheers... i just know that they are absolute dog balls!!! I think the new one's i'll be getting are 16's and they will be 40 tyres? what difference does this all make to the speedo accuracy, i just dont wanna go through a speed camera at 30 on the speedo thinking im fine and then it goin off cos i'm doing 60 extreme I know, but it's worth a go in court!!!

the anniversay had 215/40x16 tyres so you should be fine

Really not that difficult
eg if 195/60 x 14 is the factory standard tye size for your car, and I'd personally check this as it can be critical.
1st no is the width of the tyre in mm
2nd no is the aspect ratio in % - where aspect ratio is sidewall height of tyre/width
3rd no is the diameter of the wheel in inches
So for the above - the outside tyre diameter is
(195 x 60%) x 2 + (14 x 25.4) = 589mm ie sidewall height x 2 plus wheel diameter converted to mm
However, you may of course purchase wheels of a different diameter, but the key is to ensure the outside tyre diameter always remains the same - or as near to it as possible.
So taking the above example, your aim is to achieve 589mm
If you fit 16 inch wheels, then clearly you require 16 inch tyres to suit - do NOT muck about with this - but you must reduce the sidewall height to try to return to the original diameter.
Try 215/40 x 16
Overall tyre diameter here is (215 x 40%) x 2 + (16 x 25.4) = 578mm which is close
Try 195/45 x 16
Overall tyre diameter here is (195 x 45%) x 2 + (16 x 25.4) = 582mm which is closer
Try 205/45 x 16
Overall tyre diameter here is (205 x 45%) x 2 + (16 x 25.4) = 591mm which is closer still and probably your best bet if fitting 16 inch wheels instead of your current 14 inch.
Obviously you cannot go too wide as your wheels may stick out too far - an MOT fail - will look awful and you may experience some fouling on the arches when turning.
Speedo reads under if fitting larger tyres and vice-versa for smaller. 10 mm either way on diameter makes little difference however.
Do also check that your new wheels are within the offset range, and that the counter sunk centre bore of the wheel also mates up - ie similar to your old wheels.
Crystal?

Thanks for that, bit confusing but i'll muddle my way through it when I get them next week, the guy who had them had them on amk3 like mine so they should be fine.
-
My anniversary has 205/ 50 r16s and theyre fine
-
you'll be measuring from edge to edge of the outer rim whereas the actual size is from where the tyre seats in the rim. same goes for width.
-
Right so I got the new alloys, they are 16 inch, and the tyres are 205/45 does this mean their right? but comparing the old next to the new they look quite a bit bigger in total size. so i dunno, someone enlighten me!! thanks for the patience

Originally the anniversary was fited with 215/40x16!
and brisdriver 205/45x16 should be fine.....i've got a set of 195/45 for the stretched look (should the alloys ever get refurbed!!)

Ahem...As I previously stated!
Try 205/45 x 16
Overall tyre diameter here is (205 x 45%) x 2 + (16 x 25.4) = 591mm which is closer still and probably your best bet if fitting 16 inch wheels instead of your current 14 inch
Check offset and any fouling when sterring lock to lock.
