Title: Manifold ... in good condition???
Post by: LazyLunatic on 28 February 2008, 19:50
I dont know lots about engines so here a pic of my exhaust manifold. It is basically all rusty and sh!tty, does it need replacing?

Also, do I need the manifold cover? Is it used as a heat sink, cause it gets pretty hot?

Cheers

looks ok to me, if its off a mk3 it will be rusty - they are old now! unless it has holes in it, it is fine, i would say!

took out a few parts to see more of the engine and sh!t loads of it is rusty. Just thought some of it might be worth replacing.

Tis OK, sweet, more money for the pocket.

Actually, is it worth taking it off and tidying it up a bit, remove rust, etc? That goes for all parts really.

Cheers all

you could sit for hours and remove rust yes, but as the old saying goes, you can't polish a turd.

Nothing wrong with that manifold at all,  you can wire brush it and spray it with VHT (very high temp) paint  or brush it on, Makes it look a bit tidyer if your trying to smarten the engine bay up!
