Title: 16v starting probs
Post by: maximous on 28 February 2008, 09:02
Hi there people how you doing?

The story is my twin 45 carbs got nicked off the mk2 16v’er so I put the injection system back on it, sourced from a local donor car (not heard running). The problem I have is with my k-jet injection system, it doesn’t seem to be firing the injectors, or not properly at least.

So sat there last night checking everything and while I was checking the injectors I pulled two of them out and cranked it over a couple of times and nothing. I was expecting petrol to be injecting out everywhere but not a sausage! Funny thing is that when one of the injectors (doesn’t matter which one) is pulled out it starts….very confusing?

Would I be right in thinking that it’s a pressure related problem and I might need to get a new fuel pump (donor car one currently in use), do the metering units go funky on them, new injectors? Bare in mind I don’t really know much about k-jet I’m a Dellorto boy.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Max

Did you put the relay in for the fuel pump? you should be able to hear it prime on ignition before you crank the engine :)

hmmn does sound weird it took me a while to get my car to fire up after swapping injectors over, about 15mins of trying could be air in the system?

Fuel won't come out the injectors when the enguine is off unless you bridge the fuel relay then [very gently] lift the metering head plate.

Can you get it running? Have you checked timing?
