My clutch is not fitted yet, but I noticed in first and second gear that I get a clunk when I accelerate hard.
Is this due to the current knackered clutch or is it something else?
It sounds like it's coming from the front, and I can feel it in the steering.

CV joint?

Big job? I've got a mate who's apparently a diva when it comes to VeeDubs coming back from Oz so I think he'll be getting a big list of things to do for me :)
So far clutch, knocking noise, cam belt and full service looks like it's on the cards :)

CV is quite straightforward, but I wouldn't go replacing it until I did the clutch - it could just as well be that.
-
not going to be the cv joint.
sounds more like a engine mount, stick it in gear, bonnet open, mate in front, hit the biting point with the breaks on, if the engine tries to climb out the engine bay, then there is your answer.

Usually when its the mount, you notice a jerking in all gears, gearbox chucks and throws on accel / decel.

Seeing as the clutch is so fooked, maybe I this is why I can only feel it in first and second.
I'll be looking at getting the clutch done next week, so I'll get my mate to look at the engine mounts etc then...
I've come from having a Vauxhall Frontera Sport (1999) and parts for GTI's are soo effing cheap!!!!
